why aren't they announcing a u.s. release? is there a reason for it?

Disney probably want to coordinate a good marketing plan to go with its release. WFRR is a catalog title and it has already been released on DVD. To release it on BD without much fanfare would almost be disrespectful considering the many animation icons that are in the movie. Of course then there's Bob Hoskins.

A release date has also been announced for Roger in France. I own it on DVD but I'd certainly upgrade; let's hope a US release is in the plans for 2008.

What's been Disney's policy as regards region coding of catalog titles?
(I grabbed POTC 1 & 2 and both are ABC)

Most titles are ABC. IIRC, that includes all catalog titles (like WFRR).

Cars and the Pixar Shorts were recently released ABC.

But it would be awfully nice to announce a US release at CES and save us the trouble.

Yes, US release!
I really want this movie, I still have it on VHS (never bought the DVD) but no VHS player in my room to play it on anymore

OMG, now that I think about it, there isn't any VHS player in the entire house
