It's going to take much longer in the US. Trump is right, at some point you're going to have to get the economy going again, and death toll be damned.
You know I have been thinking about it though and we stopped it by closing businesses basically they shut down supply but if they tried to turn everything back on I don't think they could. Demand was naturally going to crater in a few weeks anyway. Who is going to go to a restaurant or a theater when the morality rates at like 10% because hospitals are completely overwhelmed like in Italy? The incubation time is long so people aren't panicking when they should but eventually people would have stopped shopping anyway. I don't think people realize just how long its going to take to restart the economy or the fact that the economy was going to stop whether the government did something or not.

But how would that work if they have no tax forms filed? It's not required to file taxes if you have no reportable income due to being unemployed. So in such a case I have no idea how one would go about getting a check. I suspect quite a few people will find themselves in this situation. If you're collecting social security you're already getting checks so you're in the system. With no recent tax documents filed, you're essentially not in their system.

Of course every situation is different, and not everyone who is unemployed even long-term is a "hick". Some just hit depression or hard times. Some stay home to take care of sick parents.

They can't do anything for you anyway, and you'll just be infecting others. And, you may get even sicker due to being around other sick people.

And, if you're not sure if you have the illness, I don't see the benefit of going to the doctor's office/hospital either - because you're going to expose yourself & expose others to this - which is just going to make the whole pandemic worse.
If you have it severe enough that you can't breathe, I'm pretty sure you'll want to be taken to the hospital. Remember, this affects breathing. Things can go south quickly for some people who have this. What should they do in that situation - stay home and gasp for their next breath? Of course in a proper situation, they'd go to the hospital and be put on a ventilator, and hopefully pull through. Some city hospitals are overwhelmed right now. In my state there aren't too many reported cases yet. It's certainly nothing like New York. So I think it's at least possible if I can't breath and I went to the hospital they might actually have a ventilator available.

All people have to do is sit at home and watch Netflix. Not that hard, yet people can't do it.
Yep, like a post I saw the other day said - our parents were asked to go to war. We're being asked to stay inside and watch movies for a few weeks and we won't do it. This virus is loving every second of this.

Well there's also the child development angle. How long can we keep kids out of school before it becomes irrevocably detrimental to their development? Gotta find the right balance for all of these unprecedented situations.

We don't have to worry about it right now. The school year is cancelled for many. Worry about it in September.

My niece just told me that she has more work assigned to her NOW than she does when school is normally in session. I would say that's a good balance.

Apparently this was predicted to happen, and it will happen again in 2030, and disappear completely.

Could this be from Nostradamus??

Although it is a coincidence, notice it says "resisting all known treatments" yet we know existing drugs are able to combat it.

Noticed that too, I was on here the other morning and one poster who was banned had a post slamming one of the mods, pretty obvious why he was banned, don't know about the others but a ton show up as banned

It'll get a little tougher to practice social distancing as more people venture out. My train this morning was noticeably more crowded than it has been this week. A lot of people are wearing masks and/or gloves but not everybody is so I'll be sure to stay away from those brave (or idiotic depending on your point of view) folks who have decided not to wear some protection. BTW, women are protecting themselves more than men are. Men are dying from the disease more than women so go figure.

The government stimulus check will cover my rent for May and then some. But will that money be taxed now or next year when we file again?

Honestly, I think wearing a mask looks really ridiculous. Not only that, but it doesn't work. And wearing masks puts you more at risk too because you have to adjust it sometimes and that means you have to put your hands near your face. And that will cause you to contract the virus.

Best way to protect yourself... stay at home as much as you can and if you have to go out, keep 6 feet distance and sanitize sanitize sanitize your hands every time you touch something.

I think I have interaction with maybe about 5 people on a given day, 6 if I get pickup food. Only people I touch are my wife and daughter.

If you CAN get out and exercise do that, observe proper safety measures, the sunlight helps, the movement lessens stress, allows you to sleep better and be healthier. Seems like many just want to sit around and eat all day, I actually have lost a few lbs since this whole situation went down, I have kept myself stable for years but had wanted to get under 160 which was accomplished today when I weighed myself. I still eat but in times like this the last thing I feel is gluttonous with the extra time I have been putting into things like yardwork and being active. Try to turn a horrible event that everyone is going through into a series of positives

Yeah, masks only protect certain groups of people, like those in the healthcare industry, and those serving on the World Health Organization board (who wear them during press briefings).

They don't work for the general public.

I guess the countries that most have the virus under control, like South Korea, Singapore, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, didn't get that memo. They give credit to universal mask wearing as part of the solution.
