There's a Youtube video of a conspiracy documentary, "Plandemic", featuring Dr. Judy Mikovits, that has been making the rounds on Facebook today. Mikovits, who has been a fixture in pseudoscience circles for years, is now seeking to uncover the supposed hidden agenda behind the COVID-19 pandemic.

Years ago, I would have made a bet that nothing could possibly be more amusingly mindless than the 9/11 conspiracy video, "Loose Change", and I would have lost that bet.

I wouldn't pay much stock in this story:

https://www.yahoo.com/news/shocking-...200545296.html

A 'shocking' two-thirds of patients recently hospitalized in NY had been staying home

Quote:
"They were predominantly at home."
Predominantly being the key word here.

There's simply no way to confirm how many of these people were staying home 24/7. I doubt they were. How many lied? Staying home 80% of the time isn't staying home 100% of the time. I stay home almost all week, but I go out once per week for groceries. I live in a small apartment and simply don't have room for more than a week's worth of food at a time. This article is saying they haven't been working our out in gatherings. If they are going out grocery shopping and not wearing masks or practicing safe distancing, then even that one trip out a week to the store is all that's needed to get it, if you're in a dense area or if you're just unlucky, or if you have a family member that does go out more often, like to work.

This article makes it sound like no matter what you do, you'll get it, but that's not accurate. Follow the guidelines and you'll have a much better chance of not getting sick. That's all any of us can do. But articles like this only tell half the story.

It is concerning though, because all any of us can do is follow the guidelines. People still need to eat. And that one trip per week is all it takes.

Also, how about apartment buildings with shared air circulation, and doors that multiple people have to touch to open? I do check my mail every day, which means going downstairs to check. I try not to touch anything I don't have to, using my feet to push open doors, but any contact with anything in an apartment can be scary knowing so many others handle those same surfaces. Are they considering apartment buildings, where staying at home can still be risky? I wash my hands after checking my mail. Does everyone in my building do that?

And dead, stale air with no ventilation is bad too.

It makes sense. The ones predominantly being hospitalized are the most vulnerable (elderly), who are also more likely to be spending the most time at home. If they rarely go out, then they probably get it from family members who bring it home rather then getting it from outside their home.

It really pissed me off how literally everyone in this thread is in agreement with each other and then I post and chime in and I get ganged up on! It's enough to drive me crazy. It's like, what am I saying that's so damn terrible??!!
Well you're not paranoid all the time, just more lately. No offense though. Many feel just like you do and the media doesn't help either. I got attacked in this thread today as well, so I know the feeling. Don't let it bring you down or discourage you from posting. Many people seem really uptight lately and its understandable in this crisis. It will pass.

I have a feeling we're going to follow the trend of "history repeats itself".

Global Medical Community Fears Coronavirus Second Wave

Quote:
“We’re risking a backslide that will be intolerable,” said Dr. Ian Lipkin of Columbia University’s Center for Infection and Immunity.
Quote:
Lothar Wieler, head of Germany’s national disease control center, said scientists “know with great certainty that there will be a second wave” of infections.
Quote:
A century ago, the Spanish flu epidemic’s second wave was far deadlier than its first, in part because authorities allowed mass gatherings from Philadelphia to San Francisco.
I have no idea what we should expect if we get a second wave as bad or worse as the first one. Another shutdown? More mass hoarding? Just stay open, letting it overwhelm us and count the bodies as we go?

I ask this with all sincerity- if we can't trust scientists and doctors, who do we turn to?

Please. We know there's going to be a second wave. This is not new news. Hence the fearmongering.

I suspect the second wave is going to be worse than the 1st.

It might, but I suspect it's going to be less severe. (At least on its own. Combined with the flu cases, it could well be worse.)

We'll be far more prepared and there will be fewer people to infect (those who already had it are likely to be immune).

I'm now even more confused.

So people starting the truth and reporting the truth are "fear mongering??"

Talk about a "damned if you do/don't" situation

I respectfully disagree. If he's not happy with the interactions he's having, which he's obviously not, then the right thing to do is to stop posting. Look elsewhere and find the type of interactions that he wants to have.

As the old saying goes, "Choose your battles wisely." This is not the battle to choose.

New sources chooses what to report, especially how to frame attention grabbing headlines. If they want to repeat old news as new news, even though it's truthful, it's still comes across as fearmongering to me. I guess it depends on your perspective of the coronavirus, combined with how you perceive the media portraying it.

If you don't see it that way (and I gather you don't), then I understand. No confusion here.

Only if you could see the irony in your post. Why aren't you jumping up and down screaming for Cuomo and De Blasio to follow their own advice? Why is it different for them and not everyone else; is it because some may see them as elites? The do as I say and not as I do crowd.

Based on your own advice, please stop worrying about what other people are doing in their personal lives.

Some people think their opinion is fact and is the only right view and if you don't agree with them then you're simply wrong.

Well I wouldn't call Yahoo or HUffPost an exemplary source, but those quotes are coming from experts. I wouldn't call it garbage. I think they're right - there will be another wave and it certainly has the potential to be worse.

I trust they know their field of work, and are better suited to comment on the situation than forum posters (myself included).

And the second wave of the Spanish flu was indeed worse.

That's not fear-mongering. It's warning the citizens and the leaders that if things are not approached carefully, we could see a repeat of the Spanish flu. That's fact.

I have nothing against him. I'm just saying that it doesn't make sense to continue posting here if the responses he gets just make him mad. He should go somewhere else where the interactions are positive.

I have a headache from reading all the propaganda from locals on FB. People are still spouting "the flu is way worse," "they can't make me wear a mask!," "this is way overblown and always has been," "I'm not taking Bill Gates' vaccine," and basically ignoring science and public health in general. And these people are pretty much getting unanimous likes and shares from their friends. Some of these people are high earning folks or have positions of power in their towns and it's frustrating to see.

I'm glad I'm not on FB or Twitter, etc.

The forums are already enough for me. I couldn't imagine exposing myself to that level of stupid constantly. I'd need therapy to cope with it.
