Mrs works in a sizeable city hospital and she told me they ran out of covid-19 testing supplies two days ago. They also ran out of face masks week ago. Also according to the news outlets another city hospital has suspended all tests. Yup sounds like NY has this containment under control.

We used to wrap it in newspaper years back but now most places use that off-white, recycled stuff that shows all the grease up when you unwrap it lol. You’ve given me the munchies Wabo! |

Wife is a retail pharmacist in a predominantly elderly area. Her staff pharmcist is elderly, so his first sneeze or cough means he’ll call out. The customers are panic buying their pills as SoE allows for early refill. Much like hurricane season, it’s bend over and take it. Work open to close 7 days a week and you better keep your metrics up, no excuses. Also vacation is voided, you will be required to float to other locations. That said, out the other side of their mouth, be sure to take care of yourself, be sure to take care of your family but distance yourself if they are sick. Don’t wear PPE as it might freak out the customers also, you should have your family scavenge PPE for you as the company can’t supply it.
I completely understand this is a new virus and it’s severity is not to be trifled with. The media needs to get a hold of this, it’s always the same. X says it’s going to be fine, Y says it’s horrible. I just read 4 articles posted yesterday evening from the same company. 2 sound like world collapse and potentially 18 months of isolation, 1 sounds hopeful, and the other sounds like we might make it but recovery will be difficult. WTF...just wish people would act right. Hard to imagine being as Florida is the joke of America. Listening to spring breakers on NPR was cringe worthy, while nearly every local restaurant was doing right and limiting exposure by doing pick up or curbside, the local bar had folks parked around the block. Car shows were still going, church night happened with big crowds. On the next door app, the locals were arguing that ‘church is excluded from the people limits’ as the government only said restaurants and bars. This is why we must have strict rules and everything spelled out for us. What concerns me is the electric company called in all hands and they have to stay at their facility. That sounds bad to me. Local grocery store hiked up prices today and added more stringent limits. A couple gas stations changed their policies on debit. Debit/cash has always been the same price, credit more. Today and yesterday credit and debit were now 15c more than cash vs 5c difference. A slight relief is seeing future announcements for movies popping up daily, particularly the smaller labels. Seems like a glimmer of hope. Record Store Day announcing it’s rescheduled date. Sorry for the lengthy post, I don’t have anyone to talk to aside from my 5 year old son. I’m having a hard time just trying to explain why he’s not in school every 5 minutes Last edited by thecalm_7; 03-20-2020 at 08:51 AM. |

Had a bit of an eerie experience walking to my train station this morning. It's about 5 city blocks from my apartment and there's a fog blanketing the air. Other than vehicular traffic and the occasional vagrant that pooped out of the shadows, I was the only pedestrian around. I felt like Harry Belafonte in the film The World, the Flesh and the Devil.
Speaking of vagrants, how long will it be before the homeless outnumber everyone else on the streets? It's all I saw in my main train hub this morning. |

A Diamond Mine near the one I work at announced a suspension of operations for four months. Other than a small care and maintenance crew, everyone else is laid off.
Our supervisor told us last night before shift that the Higher Ups are meeting today and that we should be prepared for the worst. I’m hoping to get a care and maintenance position but there’s several hundred here hoping for that as well. |

It seems like it's rare to have the flu, and COVID-19 at the same time. There's little to no documentation of it actually happening I think. Here's a crazy, ridiculous theory, infect everyone with a live flu virus! (well except the young, and old).

So the governor of California is projection that 25 million people in the state will get coronavirus within 8 weeks? WTF?! That has to be an exaggeration meant to scare people into their homes. But it's also going to create widespread panic, especially among the elderly. Other countries have already flattened their curves with far fewer cases (like over 1000x less).
Edit: That 25 million figure apparently was if California did nothing and it was business as usual. But Newson didn't make that clear in his speech apparently. |

Personally I don't blame anyone, especially those with underlying health conditions, or 50+ being scared out of their wits at this time. But I'm certainly one memeber that will read and respond to you. |

My supervisor is either in denial or too indecisive to make a decision. One of the guys in my office finally just e-mailed her yesterday and said he's working from home since she won't do anything. I'm just in a small home health care office with 7 other people, but the other 7 all have the capacity to work from home (I don't, but I'd feel better if I were alone). We told her a week ago if one of us gets it then we'll all have to self quarantine leaving us with no staff for patient care. She has done nothing in a week's time.

So question for you guys. I know this virus can live on certain surfaces for 24 hours to couple days. Thoughts on checking the mail?
I was going to check the mail yesterday but forgot, then started thinking about it today. Should mail be a concern? Letters/envelopes. Thinking of how many people prolly touch the mail before it reaches you. Obviously I would be washing my hands afterwards if I checked mail, but should letters and stuff be wiped down? I might sound paranoid atm, but rather be safe than sorry. ![]() So was curious what other people thought. |
