Half of my FB friends now believe 5G cell towers are going to kill us all and I'm sick of it.

Mandatory masks or face coverings wouldn't be a bad idea, at least in stores and especially on subways. LA is doing it, and I think it applies for most outdoor use as well (although I think they allow it outside if you can be certain of maintain social distancing the whole time).

Yes, but death numbers aren't telling you anything about the slowing of transmission within the population and if the measures are working.

The 'deaths' already had it as the lockdowns were introduced.

The lockdowns are about stopping the spread, not stopping the deaths of people who already had/have it.

It would hard to enforce it, but I agree that it would help.

Then get rid of FB. Getting rid of FB and IG was wonderful for my mental health. You realize how few people actually care about you when you get off of it.

Considering many, many people are dying at home and aren't being counted, it's not remotely.

I was talking to a friend last night and she's counted three bodies being taken out of her condo complex thus far...and that's just what she's seen.

I have FB and I need to keep it to find work from the various groups etc but beyond that I have only have very close family and friends on there that I am 'friends' with.

I can't understand how people complain about data collection etc and then add complete strangers and let them be privy to every thought and move they make in their life. It's utter madness!

Confirmed case at my job and nothing is being done. Not shutting down, no professional cleaners coming in, still not providing us with masks. Gonna talk to HR tomorrow and tell them I'm taking a leave of absence and maybe come back in a month depending how things are.

FB is trash now. People just share crappy memes that were stolen from twitter. But sometimes it provides entertainment when the ghetto people start online fights.

I wonder how long this lockdown is going to last. I just did the math and I’m going to be making approximately $1,500 more a month on unemployment than I was making thanks to the extra $600 per week. So I’d be okay if it gets extended another month. I’m in no rush to get back to work.

I fully agree that by looking at deaths (or ICU or hospitalization) it will take longer to see the result.

But

1)
a) What if a new test came out tomorrow where the second you use your smart phone it can tell if you have Covid-19 and in a few hours the cases jump 10 fold is that a bad sign and does it mean that what we are doing is not working?

b) what if there comes a time where there is no new beds (unless someone dies) and the only people testing are the ones vying for that new bed and so new cases drop dramatically doe that mean that what we are doing is working because new positives are extremely limited?

number of new cases is a lot more about how many and who gets tested then anything else.

2) do you think we are all doing this to save a cough and ad a bit of sick days with a fever? If that was all that there was to Covid-19 it would be business as normal. It is all about the death count.

Actually its all about not overloading our hospitals so people can hopefully be treated and saved, not the death count. But no-one can predict what it'll do to people who have it, which is what makes it so dangerous. You can be responding well one minute and dead half an hour later.

As callous as it may sound, the death rate doesn't really matter as it has nothing to do with the continual spread of the virus or eradicating it. Once they're dead, they aren't infecting anyone else. A yucky thought, but unfortunately it's a horrible fact.

The lockdown is to stop further infections from people who have it and are spreading it knowingly or unknowingly.

The fact is many many more people have it that we will ever know. Less than 1% of people in the US have been tested so far. For the most part (apart from a few random testing centres) if people aren't sick enough to go to hospital and be admitted, they aren't getting tested. Most will survive. Your new 'app' would simply prove something that we pretty much already know.

It is really all about staying separate and time passing.

What they are trying to do is to stop the virus from spreading person to person while the people who already have it get well or die. This will hopefully lead to no more new cases and eradicate the virus in the population.

If people follow the rules it has no way to spread other than by accidental means via surfaces or in the air.

It should only take 1-2 months from the lockdown start for all the people already in the illness 'cycle' to either die or get better, but that'll only happen in that time IF people follow the rules and there are a low enough number of new cases so hospitals can treat everyone properly which is what they are struggling to do at the moment or have been.

I am willing to bet money that a lot of the 'flu' numbers from everywhere between January and March after the peak Xmas travel periods, were probably already Corona deaths but they didn't even have an accurate test for it in most countries at that stage.

fully agree, that is why I said "Deaths should be the most accurate number."

it is not an absolutely right number and there is different notions a well

1) simple: person dies from Covid 19 (if possible*)
2)slightly more complicatederson dies from heart attack because Covid-19 meant his heart needed to work twice as heart to get the needed oxygen to his body and it gave up first.
3) extremely complicated. My aunt had cancer, doctors told her in January she had about a year to live (with proper treatment). In late Feb/early March the hospital called her to postpone her treatment (needed beds for Covid-19) , a few days later she was extremely week and needed her transfusion so my cousin put her in the car and drove to the hospital, but it was closed and took just Covid-19 patients, they then went to try a different hospital but they were turned away from there as well. They went back home and my cousin tried calling and the next day they went to a medical establishment that could taker her but they did not have everything needed to take care of her and then she was forwarded to a bigger hospital further away. But the damage was done and two days later she passed away.

Did she die of Covide-19, she did not seem to have it so the answer is probably not but if there was no Covid-19 or if it was no where near as big an issue would she still be alive ? I am pretty sure the answer is yes.

Frustrated about the ONLY thing that stops you from getting a check. Back Child support. They estimate a little over 2 million Americans won't get a check because of this. I know every situation is different, but if any of these people die, someone won't be getting their child support payments anymore. The real kick in the teeth is that the money won't even go to the arrears, meaning the amount behind you are. I owe child support to my 3 children. They are 29,23 & 20. One is married and has a daughter (my 1st granddaughter...YAY!!!). They're all pissed because two of them will get 1,200 & 2,900 for the married family and their dad is getting nothing. You can owe local, state or federal fines, or be in college debt & that's all forgivable. Well, that's my rant. Thanks for letting me vent.

but why does any of it matter? do we do the same every time the flu or cold comes around? if it was just a bit of a cough and fever for a couple of days ( weakest symptomatic cases) no one would care if it spreads. The reason we don't want it to spread is that it brings too many critical cases and too many deaths.

absolutely agree which is why we need to keep on doing it even if things start to look good because "not too many new cases" is not good enough and you can get a second or third peak
