Although we in the USA don't exactly hold the moral high ground. In 1950, Operation Sea Spray had the US Navy purposely release a bacteria on the metropolitan area of San Francisco. And more recently in 2019 we had a level 4 lab temporarily shut down, Fort Detrick. |

It's done and talked discretely. Thanks Bruce for confirming someone else too who just told me what I already suspected just about an hour ago. 5:05 p.m.: NYC death count revised higher by nearly 4,000 "New York City's Health Department is now attributing 3,778 more deaths to the coronavirus, officially citing them as "probable" cases. These are deaths of people -- at nursing homes, assisted living facilities and private homes -- who never received a test, but are likely to have died of coronavirus in the last month. Faces of the coronavirus pandemic: Remembering those who died While these deaths have not been included in publicly announced counts until now, city health officials have been cataloging these additional people and examining their symptoms and medical histories. "We are focused on ensuring that every New Yorker who died because of COVID-19 gets counted," New York Health Commissioner Dr. Oxiris Barbot said in a statement. While the state is attributing 7,905 deaths in New York City to coronavirus, this tally of 3,778 more "probable" deaths pushes New York City's death toll over 10,000 and puts the statewide toll at about 15,000." |

People get the flu shot, and then if they happen to get a cold months later, they somehow think it's the flu-shot's fault. It doesn't work like that. Flu shots don't give you the flu. Flu shots are safe and effective. Vaccines are safe and effective. The reason why polio isn't still a thing we worry about is because of the polio vaccine. The reason why the flu shot may or may not be particularly effective from one year to the next is because there are multiple strains every year, which constantly mutate, and they have to follow and track the mutations, and then estimate which ones are likely to be the most prevalent strains for that season based on their tracking. But nobody can know in advance for sure which strains are going to start spreading that season. So sometimes they're right and their vaccine covers the most common strains for that year, and sometimes they're wrong, and their vaccine ends up protecting against uncommon strains that year that aren't really spreading, and not protecting against the strains that are active;y spreading. So anti-vac crowds spread misinformation that flu shots don't work. That's simply not true. I don't know what they teach these days, but obviously teaching the basics of how and why vaccines work is not on today's curriculum, and I have no idea why. That, or they ignore what they've been taught in favor of conspiracy videos on Youtube. |

LOL I've been blaming my most recent flu shot for the bronchitis I got in January, although I know it didn't cause it. The reactions were highlarious.
What's less funny is a pharma tech I used to work with doesn't get flu shots because he thinks they give him the flu. Makes me wonder what they taught him in pharma tech school. |

I do wonder at which point I will truly feel comfortable at something like a sporting event, concert or amusement park. In theory, they're among the last things that will be open to the public. It will happen eventually, but we have no idea how long it will be. But if things become official and ticket sales are open to the public I doubt I'll be ready right away. |

The doomsayers on CNN keep pumping out the bad news. Some Harvard guy was on the other day saying that social distancing and wearing masks may need to stay as a way of life until at least 2022(!). How in the world will that even be enforced with people already beginning to go stir crazy? I can't even imagine having to wear a mask everywhere I go for nearly 2 more years
![]() BTW, does anyone know why the OP was banned? He seemed like a reasonable fellow (or gal). |

You can get adapters for your masks, as eventually the skin on your face and ears will deteriorate (frequent users are already seeing issues). There were 1,600,000,000 people Worldwide in 1918. Towns and cities were spread out and they still couldn't curb the spread. Everyone is a lot closer together today. But without technology, how many people could work from home, or order groceries online? Without technology, we'd know a lot less than we know now, and the advances and speed at which various labs are able to communicate and share their findings would be limited too. Without technology, the social distancing would be far less effective because it simply wouldn't be possible for people like myself to stay in. No one factor is controlling the spread, but technology absolutely is aiding our efforts here.
