Make it the LAW TO DO SO, and enforce it with strict fines and/or jail time. People will fall in line if they want to go outside.

Ha I think you've forgotten the early stages of this pandemic in the US when "heyyyy everyone, please make a point to stay home if you're sick," was one of the major advisories. How did that go? You also may be dangerously unaware of asymptomatic carriers and other characteristics of this virus that make it so contagious.

Yeahhh...cuz the police don't have enough to do? You think that *WITH* regular crimes happening they're going to start ticketing or arresting people who aren't wearing masks?

Even the threat of it will make many take pause.

The threat only works on those who are quite probably already abiding by the rules. Everyone who hasn't won't.

A poor argument because we both know that isn't going to happen. What you suggested was the only stores to be open were grocery stores and Walmart and Target. Both of those companies sell tons of non-essential items. Why should they be able to sell bikes and TVs and toys when the other retailers that sell those items have been forced to close their stores and rely on curbside pickup/online versus having shoppers in their store like W & T can.

Here in NM they closed liquor stores yet Walmart's Spirits & Wines section was wide open available for purchase.

It's not about opening too soon as you are saying. It's about leveling the playing field during the Stay-At-Open mandates. What's good for the goose should be good for the gander.

You are messing around with people's civil liberties. The Constitution isn't upended because of a pandemic. They can probably get away with fines like NYC has but going to jail? Not a snowball's chance in hell.

Well, we've gotta do SOMETHING, or else we'll all be living off of ramen noodles and tap water this time next year. No matter how many safety precautions it takes, we have to get businesses up and running again. We have to LIVE again.

Yes, larger population. 10 or 15 countries higher than us in death per capita, mostly in Europe.

I don't understand why people are so stubborn.

Like I mentioned yesterday, three people I personally know have the virus. One died and the other two are still recovering. From what I heard from them, this virus is a pain to recover from, even if symptoms aren't critical. So, stay at home and if you must go out, wear a mask. It is not worth risking your life and the lives of others.

I think most people simply don't care, either because they think they won't get it or because they think it's a hoax and they can do whatever they want. Or they could simply be too stupid to understand how bad it is.

We are doing something: staying home. I'm saying this as an unemployed man with an unemployed wife and an infant at home.

We'll get there eventually.

The target date by many states (but not all) is May 1. And what you will see will be a totally different environment then what you saw before the CV-19 pandemic hit. Most business' will take peoples temperature before they are allowed in. You may have to wear a mask. Those with higher than normal temperatures will be refused entrance. Restaurants will be down by at least 50% of capacity to maintain social distancing (the only thing that has worked in reducing CV-19 cases). For retail stores it will be based on their square footage; so many people per. Movie theaters will be at least 50% or lower due to seating arrangements.

The only thing that is proven to work until a vaccine is found is social distancing.

You can open whatever you want. You can say that certain restaurants and bars will be open with certain restrictions. Regardless, there will be a great deal of the population who won't go out even if those restrictions are in place.
No, not in the epicenter, of course not. Unfortunately it seems like the peak may not have been reached there yet. Hopefully the face covering requirement will help going forward.

If restaurants and bars open with half capacity restrictions, and half the people are afraid to go, then that sounds like a perfect combination. No Costco lines getting in.

A dad was arrested the other day for playing ball in the park with his daughter, and the sign literally said it was open for groups of 4 or less, as long as they stay 6 feet apart, which they were doing. Cops didn't care - they arrested the dad anyways.

It will be...unusual. Some people will still go out and try to break the restrictions at restaurants, while others will refuse to sit down in establishments. Our town is weird because we're a combination of a college town (I'm betting most of the Aggies who are not from here fled once campus shut down) and a retirement town. So the old people I'd place at 50/50 odds to go out, depending on whether they think it's worth risking their lives to socialize with others.

They're already starting. My mom went to a grocery store in Connecticut and they were only allowing people in if they were wearing a mask *AND* they took their temperature.

Now, granted, this is not foolproof - you can have it without having any symptoms.

Every day brings more and more stories. Today, my best friend talked to her ex. He currently has it and feels like Hell. He was taking care of his elderly parents, being careful when he left the house to run essential errands. Well, he left as soon as he started feeling "off" and, of course, the parents now have it. Dad has cancer already. So we'll see how that turns out...

COVID19 came from a labratory in Wuhan studying bat blood or poop or dead bats. The labratory was investigated by US scientists who sent photos to the CDC claiming future pendemic. CDC didn't care much. They need dead bats to study SARS. An infected covid 19 scientist excaped into Wuhan.

Dad must have said something or put up some resistance, otherwise they wouldn't have arrested him for that. But the sensationalist media will spin it as if it were the only thing that happened.
