I don't think there are many experts with things like this, it's pretty much uncharted territory, we will only know at the end, when we get there, I am on the side of staying safe, and the lock down does seem to support this.

My other worry is peoples mental health from being locked down, even more so if they are on their own, and may have had issues already.

The mental health office I worked at for 3 years is still giving therapy services through Zoom. How many of their clients can actually USE Zoom is another question, though.

Experts say it may be time for grocery stores to ban customers from coming inside

Quote:
Dozens of grocery store workers have died from the coronavirus, despite masks, temperature checks and capacity restrictions to keep them safe. So far, supermarkets have resisted the most draconian policy: banning customers from coming inside.

However, some worker experts, union leaders and small grocery owners believe it has become too dangerous to let customers browse aisles, coming into close range with workers. Grocery stores are still flooded with customers, and experts say it's time for large chains to go "dark" to the public and convert to curbside pickup and home delivery for food and other essential goods.

"Careless customers" are "probably the biggest threat" to workers right now, according to Marc Perrone, president of the United Food and Commercial Workers' union. The union said 85% of its grocery store member workers reported that customers are not practicing social distancing in stores.

I'm not entirely against it. Too many people that can't grasp the basic concept of social distancing. I would prefer curb side pick-up, let me get my products without having to interact with all those people inside the store that can't stay further away.

We don't have a vaccine for the rhinovirus either (the pathogen responsible for the common cold). We'll be fine.

The primary concern is in regards to patient populations with compromised immune systems (i.e. infants and elderly, those with underlying conditions).

The cold doesn't kill people.

Now they’re starting to want to take things too far. They already limit the amount of people allowed inside the supermarkets near me & require that you wear a mask to enter. I think that’s enough. These lockdowns & other restrictions just can’t end soon enough.

I agree, if people would listen and follow the rules, they wouldn't have to become more authoritarian.

People will only tolerate being pushed too far before they start pushing back. We are already starting to see push back happening. Trust me, people don’t want it to get into the riots & looting phases.

Seems some stores (walmart) near me are going to require people to wear masks before entering.
My question is: will they be handing them out or what? Because last time I was there, they were all out of ones to sell.

It’s 2020... people can order groceries online (or by phone) and do curbside pickup. The staff at the stores can pick orders and give them to customers outside.

I’m sure grocery store employees are tired of being sitting ducks.

Walmart stores are now giving gloves and masks to employees. It’s probably only happening because the family of a dead employee is suing them.

Or I could go in & pick my own Fruits, Vegetables & whatever else I want. If you are fine with having your freedoms stripped away more power to you, not everyone is though.
