I wouldn’t worry about it not happening. As viruses go, it’s not considered to be a really tough virus to develop a vaccine for as compared to something like Hep C. In fact, a vaccine for SARS-CoV-1 was found to be successful in animal models back in the day. That would have gone on to human clinical trials if people simply hadn’t lost interest in developing it.

Actually, I wouldn’t be surprised if ultimately more than one coronavirus vaccine is devised, like that of the Influenza vaccine for those at normal risk and those at greater risk (Fluzone High Dose).

I don't think it's just the elderly, and younger people can have health issues too, but this as with the regular flu is going to affect older people with weaker immune systems more, this is why older people in the U.K like my father have the flu jab every year.

That's what worries me the most - people rushing out to get this after it's rushed through approval and we find out that it has bad side effects.

check the stats by age group.everyone knows people of all ages can die from this. but that is also true of most things...

That study has a few problems with sample size and sample bias which increase its margin of error. It's basically 2.5% of santa clara has corona virus plus or - 3% making the whole thing worthless.

the numbers we have seen everywhere else also don't make any sense when you try to use Stanfords numbers. If these numbers held up then new york would have had over 100% infected at this point.

My sense is that they are moving along in this “break the glass mode,” which is to say that they will use fewer people in these studies and may bypass the FDA.

Additionally while the scientific body of the FDA may not soften their ethics, senior management certainly would. The FDA took the unusual step in 2010 of authenticating a letter from their scientific body to POTUS Obama charging senior management of routinely ignoring the scientific advice they were presenting in lieu of political and/or corporate favor. We all must know the revolving door between industry and government regulatory agencies swings wide, particularly where pharma is concerned.

FDA’s top leaders at the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) testified that they “didn’t have a choice, and . . .[weren’t] sure that [they] would be allowed to remain [in their positions if they] didn’t agree” to ignore the science and the law.
