I wouldn’t worry about it not happening. As viruses go, it’s not considered to be a really tough virus to develop a vaccine for as compared to something like Hep C. In fact, a vaccine for SARS-CoV-1 was found to be successful in animal models back in the day. That would have gone on to human clinical trials if people simply hadn’t lost interest in developing it.

Actually, I wouldn’t be surprised if ultimately more than one coronavirus vaccine is devised, like that of the Influenza vaccine for those at normal risk and those at greater risk (Fluzone High Dose).

I don't think it's just the elderly, and younger people can have health issues too, but this as with the regular flu is going to affect older people with weaker immune systems more, this is why older people in the U.K like my father have the flu jab every year.

Successful in terms of efficacy, not safety.

That's what worries me the most - people rushing out to get this after it's rushed through approval and we find out that it has bad side effects.

Limited testing has resulted in an artificially high death rate.

These prevalence estimates represent a range between 48,000 and 81,000 people infected in Santa Clara County by early April, 50-85-fold more than the number of confirmed cases.

Conclusions The population prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in Santa Clara County implies that the infection is much more widespread than indicated by the number of confirmed cases. Population prevalence estimates can now be used to calibrate epidemic and mortality projections.
Based on their results, the Stanford researchers estimated the mortality rate in Santa Clara County to be between 0.12% and 0.2%

That study has a few problems with sample size and sample bias which increase its margin of error. It's basically 2.5% of santa clara has corona virus plus or - 3% making the whole thing worthless.

the numbers we have seen everywhere else also don't make any sense when you try to use Stanfords numbers. If these numbers held up then new york would have had over 100% infected at this point.

I had a rude response about what most people consider exercise all ready to go but decided to keep it to myself.

IF the world was serious about NOT having preventable deaths, then The World would ban tobacco, no matter who is pissed off.

I don’t think the physicians and scientists at CBER - https://www.fda.gov/about-fda/fda-or...-research-cber
will abandon their ethics for the sake of expediency.

Coronavirus with no symptoms? Reports suggest many have unknowingly had virus

Quote:
Could you have been infected with the novel coronavirus but not have known it, having reported no symptoms?

It’s possible, as new reports suggest that many people have experienced the virus in this way, meaning COVID-19 may be less deadly than initially believed but ultimately complicating efforts to “re-open” the nation.

The news comes after reports of asymptomatic cases throughout the country, ranging from a homeless shelter in Boston to pregnant women in a New York hospital. Similar stories have emerged in Europe and in California, and even on a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier, the Associated Press reported.

They may not need to, from the previous Offit link:

My sense is that they are moving along in this “break the glass mode,” which is to say that they will use fewer people in these studies and may bypass the FDA.
Additionally while the scientific body of the FDA may not soften their ethics, senior management certainly would. The FDA took the unusual step in 2010 of authenticating a letter from their scientific body to POTUS Obama charging senior management of routinely ignoring the scientific advice they were presenting in lieu of political and/or corporate favor. We all must know the revolving door between industry and government regulatory agencies swings wide, particularly where pharma is concerned.

Copy of letter here - https://www.finance.senate.gov/imo/m...prg040209a.pdf

Quote:
FDA’s top leaders at the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) testified that they “didn’t have a choice, and . . .[weren’t] sure that [they] would be allowed to remain [in their positions if they] didn’t agree” to ignore the science and the law. To the contrary, they should be removed from their positions of authority precisely because they didn’t follow the science and the law. The judge further ruled that there was “unrebutted evidence that the FDA’s [decision] stemmed from political pressure rather than permissible health and safety concerns.” The “improper political influence” and the many “departures from its own policies” reveal that such FDA officials are incapable of ensuring integrity and science at FDA.

That's why I pointed out it was a prepub, and "skeptical" is hardly the same as the other poster suggesting it is "worthless"
