I wish my wife would practice what she preaches. She's a nurse at a big hospital, recently furloughed for two weeks (going back to work next week), every time I tell her I need to go make a supply run or volunteer to work overtime she tells me "oh, you need to stay home to help flatten the curve, blah blah..." but meanwile the last week or so she's been going out daily for God knows what and has even crossed state lines a couple times (her sister lives in PA, which is only about a 3-4hr drive away). Not sure if she'll be able to go back to work next week as a result or if they'll insist on her quarantining for two weeks.

They're gonna get that wish unfortunately. Retail is not looking too hot.

That's crazy, calling medical personnel out of retirement and then laying off nurses. Once we get to laying off hospital workers, it's time to loosen restrictions and open low risk non-essential businesses.

This is in line with my recent hospital experience, as a visitor (not a patient). Sometimes, I get the sense that being around danger everyday in a hospital kinda warps one's perspective on protocol. Your wife sounds exactly like some of the people I've met in the hospital. You'd think that they wouldn't have even realized a pandemic was afoot to begin with.

Maybe it's just human nature. I honestly don't know anymore.

Yes, in PA. Both my wife and I have been receiving the base UC the same week we file a bi-weekly claim, and the extra $600 from the CARES Act has been coming the following week.

But unemployment is a real shit show right now. I know some people who have been laid off for six weeks and are yet to receive any money.

Why I'm not expecting anything from NM when I complain later, heard differing reasons for why I haven't gotten anything except the basic $1200 from CARES.

I agree with you. Haven't been to a hospital, but I went to a store yesterday (Home Depot) for the first time in months. I'm not exaggerating when I say almost no one in the building was being conscious of keeping a safe distance from others.

I get it for the employees. They have to be mentally exhausted after weeks and weeks of ever-changing bad news, protocol updates, new policies, safety training, changes in operating hours, etc. It must be defeating if one commits to taking all this seriously only to have a customer get right in their face and tap their shoulder with questions as soon as doors open.

Like you said, human nature. "What's the point? Nobody else here seems to give a shit". They're in the middle of it and can't get away from biggest hazard: people

There was a dude in the store the other day with two boys under ten in tow, and none of them were wearing masks. There was another customer with an under-ten kid with her, and the kid had his mask hanging off his chin like a beard.

Thankfully, customers like that are rare in my store, but still...if we're being forced to wear uncomfortable masks for up to seven hours at a stretch, you people can put up with one for the half-hour you're shopping.

expecting kids to wear masks, wear them properly, and not touch their face is a tall task imo. if they expect kids to wear them in school, they got another thing comin to em

When I have to go grocery shopping and I’m concerned with people not obeying social distancing guidelines, my strategy is to go in my hospital scrubs and mask and people stay their distance because they think I have the plague.

i'll ask again, have you read articles of the actual statistics per age bracket?

because the "healthy young people dying" articles you speak of are a blip on the radar and dont represent anything other than clicks....

I have a suggestion for those to whom it pertains:

Just because you can bring your entire family shopping with you, doesn't mean you should. Before heading out, put pen to paper, make a shopping list, head out yourself, and leave the rest of them at home. They'll survive.

Here's some info about it. If you qualify for unemployment, you should be receiving this additional booster automatically. If you're not, get in touch with somebody and find out why not. Even if you have cut hours you should still qualify.

https://news.yahoo.com/quirk-coronav...213226648.html

https://www.marketwatch.com/story/ex...ply-2020-04-02

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/...ronavirus.html

https://www.wsaw.com/fox/content/new...569888341.html

My girlfriend thinks she received her first booster last week in her first unemployment check. She had her hours cut by 16 hours but she and other co-workers have had a hard time filing, with the site denying applications. They've been in contact with their employer over it and they're apparently switching soon to work share which should fix the problem they've been having filing.

Apparently it's a mess out there right now trying to file for unemployment due to website issues and confusion. My girlfriend was originally told by somebody at unemployment over the phone that she made too much to qualify for unemployment after the website denied her claim, which is of course nonsense. Anyone with cut hours due tot he Coronoavirus qualifies, and she certainly doesn't make enough that she would be in some bracket that would exclude her from unemployment benefits, even under normal conditions. She had to collect temporarily under the work share program once before from her company, before she was called back full time.

Are you suggesting that parents, as in the above cases, leave children under ten at home alone? There are plenty of single parents out there.

You continue to spread misinformation. Yes, young healthy people dying from this are a minority. That doesn't mean it isn't happening. Everyone is vulnerable to this and anyone can get it - it's just a matter of how their bodies handle it. And since you won't know how your body handles it until you get it, it's would be wise to not want to get it.

Especially if you have a conscience and don't want to spread it to others. This whole "I don't have to worry because I'm not old" is getting tiresome. You can still be a spreader if you have it. Or do you not care if you get others sick?

I should know better by now than to get in discussions like this.

It's getting harder and harder to get Amazon to fulfill orders as it is. This may kill small businesses but that doesn't necessarily mean Amazon is getting stronger. I'm thisclose to cancelling my Prime membership because it's taking them 7 days to ship stuff instead of the usual 2.
