Annoyed that in addition to everything else, thermometers are sold out everywhere I've looked.

From Gov. Cuomo's twitter

Quote:
NYS is partnering with
@BioReference
to run an addition 5,000 #coronavirus tests a day.

That is on top of the testing being done at 28 public & private labs.

As we test more, the numbers will rise. But remember that the more positives we find, the more we can reduce the spread.

Cuomo has been doing a really excellent job handling this whole crisis. Very transparent, and frank, and just handling it all calmly. I feel better knowing he's in charge of my state, though the city is run by a complete buffoon of a mayor.

Exactly my thoughts. Cuomo has been better than Blasio on just about everything.

Luckily we still had a decent amount on hand, no pun intended. It's one of those things that few people seemed to care about until recently and I rarely used to see people use the free ones at counters in stores or public places. Even at the gym I always seemed to be one of the few people to use it. But now it's one of those things that despite there being soap and water everywhere it's still nice to have a bottle with you while going out. I worry more about older family and friends than myself here.

On a personal level, that's all I'm worried about. If it were just me, I would not be losing any sleep about catching it myself.

Wonder how the whole jury duty process is going on right now. In Brooklyn at leat, they gather hundreds of people into one large room, and wait for hours before being called into a smaller room with others in a group. I just read a Brooklyn Supreme Court official tested positive too.

It sucks for pending cases right now as the legal system has to go on, but I have to imagine a lot of New Yorkers are not willing to go to jury duty. I mean, most aren't in general, but especially now. I'm reading that some other states are suspending jury trials for now, hopefully NYC follows suit.

Just went thru the Burger King drive thru and they used a food tray for you to put your credit card/cash on and your bag when they give it you. Better safe than sorry.

Huh that's not a bad idea. McDonalds didn't have that when I was there earlier.

Trudeau holding an isolation press conference and saying nobody that has been in contact with him lately is at any risk because he shows no symptoms yet when the chances are high he has got it from his wife. How did this moron get re-elected?

Not to mention the flaw in self isolation not meaning gather the media in front of you and have people draw straws to decide who gets to touch and disassemble the stand and microphone he just spit all over

The media in the UK are arguably guilty of ramping the hysteria of this out of control and then some. There are 22 cases in Oxfordshire, out of a local population of 687,524. Let's look at those numbers; a mere 22 people with the virus, out of a population of more than half a million. In other counties the amount is far less. I think the UK government is doing a solid job of handling it and not reacting in an overblown manner.

Coronavirus Can Live in Patients for Five Weeks After Contagion

Patients with the new coronavirus keep the pathogen in their respiratory tract for as long as 37 days, a new study found, suggesting they could remain infectious for many weeks.

In yet another sign of how difficult the pandemic may be to contain, doctors in China detected the virus’s RNA in respiratory samples from survivors for a median of 20 days after they became infected, they wrote in an article published in the Lancet medical journal.

The findings have “important implications for both patient isolation decision-making and guidance around the length of antiviral treatment,” Fei Zhou from the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and the other authors wrote.

Currently, the recommended isolation period after exposure is 14 days to avoid spreading the virus. But if people remain contagious long after their symptoms have vanished, they may unwittingly propagate the pathogen after they return from quarantine.

By comparison, only a third of patients with SARS still harbored the virus in their respiratory tract after as long as four weeks, the Chinese scientists said. They studied the medical records and laboratory data from 191 Covid-19 patients treated at Jinyintan Hospital and Wuhan Pulmonary Hospital, including 54 who died from the infection. (Source)

What good are gloves? Does the virus not stay on glove material?

Not an expert here chiming in, but I'm assuming they're okay to some degree if used correctly. In other words using disposable gloves once and then discarding them after each use. Also not touching the eyes, mouth, and ears with them. The problem is many people try to recycle their use to save money and also can't help to not touch their face with them. And glove quality may matter as well, such as thicker nitrile ones that don't rip or puncture as easily. The key point again may come down to 'proper use'.

Outside of the medical community, the gloves only seem to be there to eliminate the hand washing step, which makes wearing them a lazy and wasteful practice...and one that probably doesn't do anything beyond just having/being mindful of clean hands to begin with.
