Still very concerned about the lack of receiving a stimulus payment. I qualify as a non-filer, and they do not currently have any tax info on me. But, I did mail a paper return the first week of April thinking at the time that if I didn't, they would not have me in their system for the stimulus check. Then after I sent the paper return, I learned about the non-filer page for people who aren't required to file. I mailed in my return because it was required due to some lines being 0 in the return - Turbotax prepared it but said it's not eligible for electronic filing.

The IRS page for non-filers says:

Quote:
Non-Filers: Enter Your Payment Info Here

Use the "Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here" application if:

You are not required to file federal income tax returns for 2018 and 2019 for any reason including:
Your income is less than $12,200
You’re married filing jointly and together your income is less than $24,400
You have no income

Do not use this tool if you are required to file a 2018 or 2019 tax return; you should file as you normally would.
I bolded that last part because that's my problem. It says if you are required to file, you can't use the non-filer tool. I wasn't required to, but I did. So does that mean I can't use the tool? They specifically don't address this situation. They aren't even looking at paper returns so I may have to wait all year for the stimulus, or I may never even get it at all. It's sitting in a pile of paper returns with the lights out right now. But, since I mailed my return, does that mean I can't use the non-filer tool? I'm not required to file, but I did anyways. It's not clear then if I can't use it since I mailed my return. I had no refund or tax due, so I could have just skipped filing, but there was little information available about the stimulus payments when I mailed mine out.

It's incredibly frustrating that if I hadn't mailed it in last month, I could have used the non-filer tool and had the money already, but because I mailed it, in I may never get it.

On the tool page, it says:

Quote:
Do NOT use this tool if you will be filing a 2019 return. Using the tool instead of filing your 2019 return will slow down processing of your tax return and receiving any tax refund.
I don't care if it slows down my tax return processing and tax refund, because I don't have a tax refund coming anyways. I just want to make sure I get the stimulus money. If using that tool anyways means I'll get the stimulus money but later my tax return processing may be tied up, I don't care since it's 0 anyways. But I don't want to get in trouble for using it.

What do I do? Use the tool? Last thing I want is for them to give me a hard time later. But I also don't want to miss out on the payment. Currently I'm not even in their system as I was a non-filer last year also. Very frustrating situation.

I filed my taxes but I don't even show up on their system. Apparently I had an old IRS account that got locked when they upgraded accounts awhile ago, but I never logged in again. Now I'm locked out and phone support is nonexistent. As in they're not taking any calls at all. I'm probably at the end of the line for payments.

Yeah, I understand that safety is key here, but we need some sort of balance. If everyone stops working, the world will stop spinning, metaphorically speaking. So that's not good either.

"Everyone" never stopped working. There are LOTS of people who are essential and others who are still working from home.

I've noticed a definite uptick in traffic lately where I live...

At the end of March it was so quiet outside you could hear a pin drop. And there was hardly any traffic. I could walk across the main road and not even bother looking for cars.

Now, not so much.

Director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota, Dr. Michael Osterholm warns, "We're in the 2nd inning of a 9 inning contest." He also is not against some form of reopening, but he stresses to proceed with caution. No one knows for sure what's going to happen, but Dr. Osterholm is actually a knowledgeable infectious disease expert, he's not a dog and pony show reality star celebrity looking for ratings, so it's ok to at least cut him a little slack, don't ya think? The fact of the matter is that COVID-19 is spreading like a raging wildfire out here, so be very careful wherever you go & whatever you do. Do your best to protect yourselves & others. For me personally, I'm maintaining the mindset that we have not yet prevailed & this is just getting started. Take care people, be safe & don't be brainless.

A lot of manufacturing shut down and same for retail, and consumer spending accounts for 70% of the GDP. So sure, not everything closed but the most important stuff did.

I have to wonder how many thousands of deaths Russia is covering up. There is no way in hell they're telling the truth as far as their death numbers go.

Certainly too much fear from getting it outside. This virus is almost always caught indoors. I read letters to the editor in my local newspaper about the horrors of joggers and cyclists going about without the "required" masks. Even though this is not by any means a densely populated area and very easy to social distance. Still a lot of people think that just because they wear a mask outside, others should too.
