In fact, even the use of hydroxy itself was left to the discretion of the team. So it's possible that some patients in the hydroxy group weren't even getting it at one point during the study..How can accurately compare a hydroxy group to a non-hydroxy group when the hydroxy group also may not be getting it? It doesn't really make sense as far as a trial goes.

Quote:
The suggested hydroxychloroquine regimen was a loading dose of 600 mg twice on day 1, followed by 400 mg daily for 4 additional days. Azithromycin at a dose of 500 mg on day 1 and then 250 mg daily for 4 more days in combination with hydroxychloroquine was an additional suggested therapeutic option. The azithromycin suggestion was removed on April 12, 2020, and the hydroxychloroquine suggestion was removed on April 29, 2020. The decision to prescribe either or both medications was left to the discretion of the treating team for each individual patient.
Also, looking at the study, it says the people that received Hydroxychloroquine were more severely ill compared to those not given it. How does that not skew the results??

Quote:
Hydroxychloroquine-treated patients were more severely ill at baseline than those who did not receive hydroxychloroquine (median ratio of partial pressure of arterial oxygen to the fraction of inspired oxygen, 223 vs. 360).
The study did conclude that hydroxy didn't increase any risks. It just didn't increase benefits either. I think if it did any clinically significant harm, the study would have stated that, and recommend it not be used at all. the findings here are fairly inconclusive. In any event, most people have moved on from this drug, and are looking at others like Remdesivir. It just sucks that this drug was tainted with negativity so early on because it became politicized.

"Table 1" indicates that a total of 613 patients received azithromycin along with hydroxychloroquine for part of the study.

I added more to my post above. In the first source provided by mar30 they didn't mention azithromycin at all, and made it seem like it was just hydroxy.

I see what you added, but you seem to be saying that arithromycin was only "suggested" & then immediately withdrawn as a consideration without ever being used at all in any patients at any time during the course of the study & that just doesn't appear to be true.

The study doesn't really go into the use or administration of zithromax in combination with Hydroxy. It's just listed as one of many drugs the patient may have taken/given. The problem here is this is just an overview of a multitude of cases, rather than a focused trial with specific dosages given to a selected group of participants. It is afterall just an observational study. Things like Remdesivir should not be administered in any patients, and would absolutely be excluded if this was a proper clinical trial. It's hard to make definitive conclusions either way based off an observational study, especially one where the results appear to be skewed in favor of non-Hydroxy patients.

^^I gotcha. Well, it's still under study & apparently being used by some, so maybe it has it's place. We'll see.

They'd need to have more buses and drivers!
I lived in Suffolk County. I went to the William Floyd School District.
My bus was packed every day and it was a 30 minute drive.

No lunch lines?
What about the parents that are too busy with work to make a lunch everyday?

Stay with same teacher?
How does that work with 6th grade and up where teachers teach a single subject and kids move from room to room 7-10 times a day?

The desks being 6 feet apart is the funniest part. That would accommodate about...6 students in a classroom at best.

Slapping together a simple sandwich for lunch is so easy and takes 5 minutes, at most. It really irks me how lazy people are today that they can't make their own lunch. It's the simplest things to do.

I'm talking about people losing their homes, careers, loved ones due to starvation/depression. I'm no fan of large corporations but we need them to survive. Some stores and companies are already going out of business or closing many of their stores permanently due to this virus.

But I also don't support just "opening it all back up". It sucks but we have to use our brains for once in our lifetime and think rationally, and not jump to any conclusions. Like I said above, we need a balance. Some places - not all - should slowly start to open up, with precautions, and we need to carefully monitor how it goes, and truthfully report the facts. And people need to follow the guidelines.

The problem is, none of those things will happen.
Well, not to get political, but someone needs to tell this to our leaders in NY. NYC is still shutdown and as a result, sooooo many jobs are either still on hold, or completely lost. We haven't even begun Phase 1 reopening so we have a long way to go.

Since this virus began, I've been reading that people have been comparing COVID-19 to the HIV/AIDS virus for some odd reason. However, these viruses couldn't be more different - and, I think it's ridiculous, misleading, and irresponsible to compare the two:

HIV is spread through blood. So, intimate/sexual contact with someone else who has it (if blood is transmitted), a dirty/infected needle, and/or a blood transfusion are ways that this can be transmitted. You cannot get this by hugging someone, kissing someone (unless blood is transmitted, and it's unlikely with kissing), sitting near someone, touching something an infected person has touched, saliva, saliva droplets, via the air, etc. I have also heard that if you get this, it's pretty much fatal - without medication. And, there is no cure for this - AFAIK.

Conversely, COVID-19 can be spread through the air via saliva droplets, by touching something an infected person has touched & then touching your face/mouth, etc. It's much more transmittable/contagious than AIDS. And, people getting this vary widely re: their symptoms: I.e., some are asymptomatic; some get sick but then can recover @ home without going to a hospital; some get very sick and need to go to a hospital & then recover with medical help; and, some get sick & die (even with medical help). So, despite there being no cure for this some people have recovered - even though they still may be able to get this again.

If you can't put your kids together a 5 minute lunch then you probably shouldn't be a parent because you also wouldn't have time to help them with homework, listen to their problems, teach them how to drive, take them to school activities. You know, stuff they depend on you to be there for. Suck it up, throw a lunch together...be a parent.
