COVID-19 Antibody Tests Can Be Wrong Half The Time, CDC Says

Quote:
If only a small percentage of those being tested are infected, the tests’ margin of error will be higher, whereas if the rate of infection is higher among those being tested, the positive predictive value increases, the CDC explained.

“When a test is used in a population where prevalence is low, the positive predictive value drops because there are more false-positive results, since the pre-test probability is low,” the CDC’s website states.

I genuinely can't believe how effective this fear mongering in the media has been for the majority and its damaging to us as a society viewing each other like we're walking death.
I genuinely can't believe how many people don't seem to care and aren't even taking precautions.

Scientists from Biochemistry & Immunology at Trinity College Dublin in Ireland have made some good news this evening on making a new drug treatment available for Covid-19. Professor Luke O'Neill of TCD has said initial test results by his team of scientists for drug treatment of Covid-19 has yielded very positive initial testing results for treating the virus.

There will more on that story later.

The Rep. of Ireland has also increased the recovery rate from Covid-19 to 90%.

It's death rate has increased again by 17 deaths with 73 new cases which is a little bit worrying.

The 2m physical distancing limit is to remain unchanged with the 2nd phase of restrictions set to be lifted on the 8th of June.

In other news; The EU Commission has proposed a recovery plan amounting to €750 billion, consisting of grants & loans, to member states affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. It's part of a financing recovery plan from the EU which amounts to €3.1 trillion which consists of raising new money for the EU's 7 year budget and raising that money on the international markets. Other plans for raising the money would include a tax on the digital economy & a tax on plastics under the European Green Deal.

I do both so you're asking the wrong person.

I know multiple people who have done just that and guess what? They're fine...get your haircut and feel better.

You're exactly right. There are people who have allowed themselves to get so fearful that they are scared to death to step foot outside their door. It's crazy.

I agree that fear is definitely resulting in some people going too far, but in most cases, there's no harm in being too careful. The harm is in not giving a crap and doing whatever they want, and there's plenty of that going around. Are we forgetting how swamped some of these hospitals were just a few weeks ago? Things need to stop or we would have had a major catastrophe on our hands as some hospitals could not even take in new patients regardless of what they were there for. Tens of thousands of people swamped into hospitals within a few weeks' time. We aren't equipped for that.

Got a mass text from my employer today that we're having a meeting Friday morning to discuss re-opening the restaurant on Monday. We've been here before (April 10th and May 15th) so hopefully it's actually happening this time.

I wonder how many people have yards and landscapes that are a mess because they are afraid of going outside?

Fauci Says Coronavirus Second Wave ‘Is Not Inevitable,’ Stresses CDC Guidelines

Quote:
White House coronavirus task force member Dr. Anthony Fauci said Wednesday that a second wave of coronavirus infections “is not inevitable,” but stressed that people should continue following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines to curb the spread of the contagion.
Quote:
“We often talk about the possibility of a second wave, or of an outbreak when you reopen,” Fauci said Wednesday, adding: “We don’t have to accept that as an inevitability.”

If we do the kinds of things that we’re putting in place now ― to have the workforce, the system, and the will to do the kinds of things that are the clear and effective identification, isolation and contact tracing ― we can prevent this second wave that we’re talking about,” he said. “If we do it correctly.”
Bolded keyword is the important bit. If everyone is going to just do whatever they want this spring/summer, then we're going to have a bad fall/winter. If people act like members of a society, then maybe we can actually avoid another full wave. But from what I see, lots of people don't want to act like members of our society.

Obviously that's going too far. People can certainly go outside and tend to thier yards, without a mask even.

Members of a society - this entire fiasco has proven that probably at least 90% of people don't care about anyone but themselves.

Unfortunately, I see tons of people doing just that - gathering in large crowds. That's why I'm worried about this fall.

I think if you're not doing something off your property that requires heavy breathing such as biking or running, you need to be wearing a mask. That's coming from someone who think they're probably not as effective as a lot of people think.
