Where I live it is confidential. They don't divulge cases in small communities, where exactly.
It is what it is, no question asked, no contest, no protest, do as you're told, we are here to give you news that suit the public best.

They just don't want to alarm anyone. That's good; WHO needs an alarm when there's nothing to wake up to...job.

* Nursing homes are the most risky places, we ought to know in order to protect our children and our parents. It's important to know. MASKS are always the main talk of the day, without them things would be much worse.

Quote:
Well nursing home outbreaks I don't think would be classified, unless something has changed. I'm sure the workers there (who live in high risk areas and often take public transport) are given N95s now, so that has likely contributed to the decline in overall deaths in the U.S. (elsewhere too I imagine).
Also, it is extremely challenging now to go grocery shopping...I found.
Methinks they should hire more staff to do the shopping for you online and deliver right outside your door. If you live in a skyscraper, outside the main door where the doorman takes all precautions for the second run (delivery to your appt.).

Stay safe ... watch movies, eat well, wash your hands, be extra vigilant, ... stay the course.

Hopefully people will be following CO-VID 19 guidelines better at work tonight but I'm not holding my breath.

It's time to mow the lawn now, and tonight Jaws on 4K.
After the lawn I'll have a cold Corona.

Tomorrow a Jaws review.

Stay safe guys, wear a mask when going out in public, watch the good news, stay away from the bad news, don't stress out, keep your cool @ all times, relax with Jaws @ the beach ...

And remember, hope is all we can dream of ...

Peace on Earth

Coronavirus //// Health

Quote:
For the second consecutive day, Florida announced a record number of new coronavirus cases Friday, adding almost 4,000 reports for a total approaching 90,000.

That broke the previous record set just Thursday, when 3,207 reports were added, according to the state Health Department.
The Sunshine State has "all the markings of the next large epicenter of coronavirus transmission," and risks being the "worst it has ever been," according to projections from a model by scientists at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania.
In Florida and in other states, the pressure is on for local leaders to respond to regional Covid-19 spikes and records, and some are turning to mask mandates.
Eight states are seeing their highest seven-day averages of new coronavirus cases per day since the crisis began, according to an analysis of data from Johns Hopkins University. This data includes new cases reported by Johns Hopkins through Thursday, June 18.
Besides Florida, those states are: Arizona, California, Nevada, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas and Utah.
In Florida, Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings said in a statement that he signed an executive order Thursday mandating face coverings.
Palm Beach County commissioners will discuss a similar mandate on Tuesday, Commissioner Melissa McKinlay said Friday.
"I'm hoping my colleagues will agree with some of us who've made that ask," she said.
McKinlay said the public's resistance to wearing masks when outside their homes may come down to virus fatigue. "Florida opened up very quickly." "People thought that that was a return to normal."

Friday is typically the day the highest number of reported cases occur, and today was no exception. Over 180,000 worldwide today, with Brazil an astonishing 55,000 cases.

Meanwhile more states are seeing rises and the U.S. passing 30,000 again for the first time since May 1st (also a Friday), with just over 33,000 total cases.

Interesting. The entire South and West seeing rises, while the Midwest and Northeast so far staying flat or declining.

Only 2 of the 14 states with statewide mask laws are seeing an increase in cases. One of which, California, just passed a mask law two days ago (cases there primarily increasing in the LA area where masks weren't required for the most part).

One the other hand, 23 of the remaining 36 states without statewide laws are seeing rises in cases. Maybe it's time they joined the 14 states that require them? At least, indoors.

Ireland's PM, Leo Varadkar, made via a formal address earlier this evening outside Government Buildings in Dublin. In it; he said that along with pubs serving food with drinks & restaurants; places of worship, cinemas, theatres, gyms, hairdressers & barber shops will re-open on the 29th of June.

Major contact sports in Ireland will resume for both kids & adults from that date with grant money in place to support them.

From the 29th of June, indoor gatherings will be increased to 50 people. Outdoor gatherings will be increased to 100 people.

From the 20th of July, indoor gatherings will increase to 100 people. Outdoor gatherings will be at 500 people.

Yikes, a little over 1,100 new cases in NY yesterday. Looks like we're headed for another spike. If it continues over the weekend, NYC might have to say goodbye to Monday's phase 2 reopening...

My state, Arkansas keeps shooting up the charts. A record 703 cases yesterday. The governor just appears clueless and for some reason, he refuses to allow cities to mandate mask wearing.

I don't get this argument that mask wearing limits your freedom. It would be like the boat is sinking and you demand your freedom to not help bail out water. More freedom today is gonna mean less freedom in the future if this virus has its way.

Except those numbers are wrong. June 18th is the latest official data, and 796 tested positive out of a record 79,303 tests performed. I don't know where worldometer is getting their data, but I can't find anything to support it. The error appears to be for Suffolk, LI, which they're reporting had 448 cases yesterday, but nothing at all suggests the numbers would be this high. Suffolk reported 54 cases for the 18th..

If you go to the source that worldometer is citing for Suffolk, it even says 54 new cases:

https://suffolkcountyny.gov/Departme...-2020-430-pm-1

The difference is likely the cutoff time. Worldmeters goes 9pm to 9pm EST. So while the daily numbers will differ, depending on which time zone you're in (California it's 6pm to 6pm), the cumulative or 7 day moving averages will be the same.

No, they're just wrong. NY numbers updated for today. Suffolk's data from the 19th were 44 cases. So again, nowhere near the 448 worldometer listed yesterday.

I've listened to people say that they thought it (and ignoring social distancing) was worth the risk. Have IQs dropped so low? Like they were choosing not to wear a bike helmet and only they would suffer the consequences.

Yes, you think it's worth the risk, but does everyone else that you come in contact with feel the same way?

We get it, people don't like masks. Do they think ventilators are better or worse?

What a relief! I was scared for a second that we might have a second wave. We’ve been doing well so far and we’ve come a long way so I’d like it to continue that way.

But I guess we can put to bed the idea that this was going to "go away" with the warmer weather?
