CO-VID 19 update coming today at 3:30 from our governor, I highly doubt it's good news. I am hoping it will include the state now enforcing a requirement to wear masks every time you enter a privately owned establishment.

Bat, shall we split the difference as to the minimal effectiveness of the first iteration? I think no less than 50% is acceptable given the efficacy of Influenza vaccines (In the 70%'s would be very desirable though).

Just issued - “the FDA would expect that a COVID-19 vaccine would prevent disease or decrease its severity in at least 50% of people who are vaccinated.

Yeah I just don't want people to expect 90%, it sounds like Pfizer has several possible vaccines all at some stage of development though. Finally a clinical application to come out of all their boner profits.

I thought that was already a law? Masks all the time. Do you mean residences?

70%, 75% or whatever percent is better than no vaccine (i.e. 0%).

So if you have a 70% effective vaccine, bring it on!!!

Well no, you're not required to wear masks to the gym.

Also someone else here (I think) pointed it out, masks are required but that is rarely enforced. It's time to enforce it. Businesses need to start valuing lives more than profits and force people to wear masks to enter the premises.

As of May 16th NM requires mask wearing in all public places. They are not required in residences - up to the individual.

De Blasio puts brakes on NYC indoor dining indefinitely over COVID-19 concerns

Phase 3 is scheduled for NYC next Monday but Mayor de Blasio put the city’s reboot of indoor dining on hold indefinitely Wednesday, citing nationwide coronavirus surges and the heightened dangers of the indoor spread of the disease.

That's good. We've come a long way and with outbreaks all over the country, we run a big risk on going back to where we started. Indoor dining is a HUGE risk at this time. Outdoor dining has proven to be ok, so I think it's fine to keep that going (though I personally would still not do it). But indoor.... no way!

New tracking site, just launched today. It shows a map of the U.S. by county, and what level it's in. Red is highest, then Orange, then Yellow and finally Green. The Red and Orange counties are the ones spiking.

The criteria is daily cases per 100,000 population, 7 day rolling average. Hover over the county to see the data.

you’re likely referring to this - https://www.statnews.com/2020/07/01/...itive-results/

With regards to that ^, and in conjunction with this recent news – https://www.cbc.ca/news/health/covid...hina-1.5630947

Not getting much attention and I don’t mean this to be racist in any sense because I’m unbiased as to race, religion, nationality, gender, socioeconomic standing, or sexual orientation and actually truly admire and respect the Asian culture in general. What is nefarious are not the common folks of China, Russia, etc. but rather the leadership….although, poor leadership, if convincing enough, can trickle down to common folk in any country.

Anyway, to the point, in the race (and it is a race, as China has essentially chosen to skip Phase 3 trials and have their military become Phase 3, for better or worse) to produce a vaccine could well, if not already, become a little like the U.S./Russian arms race of years ago and the first one to *win it*, would have enormous geopolitical leverage over other countries if they chose not to share the data or simply drag their feet and subtly delay sharing the science because it would give such a country a big advantage in recharging their economy sooner than others. We already know that Russia has attempted to hack into companies, academicians, etc. attempting to steal, what is now proprietary knowledge, to vaccine development against SARS-CoV-2.

Just something to ponder.

California reimposing restrictions in 19 counties due to outbreaks. Indoor dining, wineries, movie theaters and family entertainment, zoos, museums and cardrooms must close in these counties. Fortunately my county was not included in the list. Indoor dining just opened up a few days ago here.

In addition, all bars must close immediately statewide.

Gyms and hair salons were not included in the closure list. I think that gyms are being overrated in terms of risk, as surface contamination isn't as big a factor in transmission as once thought. Anyway gyms in Marin are not open yet. They were going to be but have been put on hold (along with movie theaters).

I miss going the theater most of all.

New York City’s Return to Indoor Dining Has Been Officially Postponed

I'm from near Montreal originally (born). My Dad (RIP) was in the steel business, and many of his customers were from New York. Lots of dealings with New York steel businessmen.
I love New York, the big Apple.

I also like Steve Jobs for his innovations and the Beatles for their music culture they still bring to our world today. It will never die, the Beatles' music is as solid as the rock of Gibraltar, immortal, virus-free, the best cure in the world. ...I think.

There are so many great songs by the Beatles that it's hard to pick one, any one would be fine ...

I think with appropriate measures and protocols, indoor dining can work. You have to remove all buffet-style dining, bars and any queues where customers wait around other people. You also have to sanitize everything customers touch, although if people wash their hands I question the need to sanitize the menus every time they're used. It can be done but I also understand a lot of restaurants don't have the resources to do it.

Huge Beatles fan myself. The greatest band of all time. The 60's was such a great decade for music. If I were to go back in time, that would be the decade (although I'd like be 10 years older than I was back then please )

Big blow for restaurants, preemptively delaying indoor dining due to outbreaks in other areas. I hope they can figure it out but I see a lot of restaurants closing for good.

Yeah I think since a lot of places have been closed or minimal traffic since at least mid-March, some of them are just dead in the water. Really sucks for a lot of people.

I think a big problem is that people from different households are dining together, and then they talk to each other without masks face to face. Not much can be done in that situation. Even if they have to wear a mask while waiting for food, they'll be talking and eating without the masks anyway.
