An interesting idea, but I don't think it would work. In my opinion, the people who are currently wearing masks would take positive results seriously and do what they could to prevent spreading. The people who are not currently wearing masks would not take positive results seriously (citing any number of excuses) and then just go about their business as usual without regard for the safety of others.

You could say that about...literally everything...when it comes to this virus.

That could be the tagline.

"Covid-19...

...this could have been avoided."

I don't want to misinform or mislead in this thread, just offering an anecdotal POV. We had a "Safer at home" order, but it never felt like a strict lockdown. Most media company offices went remote practically overnight, so it makes sense podcasters would feel a bigger impact, same with YouTubers and other producers.

We did, but it's been pretty loose lately. Things are starting to close up again. I went to Costco on Sunday and it was packed. No school distancing whatsoever. People were playing bumper carts.

Either way, it looks like most school districts are going distance learning until January at the earliest. Districts were initially going to force teachers back in with little to no safety precautions, but thankfully all the teachers pushed back with their unions. With a teacher shortage, there isn't much the distracts can do.

In Marin we would be doing just fine, except for a couple of problem areas. The Canal area, which is mostly Hispanic and high density, is a hot spot, as well as the San Quentin prison. In fact, Hispanics here now account for 78% of the cases, even though they are only 16% of the population.

I would imagine the poor and minorities everywhere, that live in high density areas with little control over housing capacity, are accounting for the lion's share of cases in all these hot spots around the country.

Covid fatigue? We've only been in "the soup" of it since mid-March. Jeez, people.

Also weather is not nice, it's brutally hot at record temperatures here in New Mexico and will be for awhile. Just one of a few reasons I don't see people flocking to restaurants to eat outside right now.

I ate outside at a restaurant a few days ago. Only downside was an occasional fly, but it was nice to eat at a restaurant for the first time in 4 months. Even got a nice view of a protest march while I was there.

A man was fatally shot Tuesday by a Michigan sheriff’s deputy after stabbing another man who had challenged him about not wearing a mask at a convenience store, police said.

The shooting occurred in Eaton County, southwest of Lansing, about 30 minutes after the stabbing at a Quality Dairy store, state police Lt. Brian Oleksyk said.

A sheriff’s deputy spotted the man’s vehicle in a residential neighborhood and shot him when he tried to attack her with a knife, Oleksyk said.

Mike, nearly every store requires a mask around here. People do often exercise and run or walk without masks though.

Unfortunately, you're more likely to get it on the plane ride over here.

Just got back from the dentist to fix a filling that fell out.

Figured it was better to do it now than a few months from now when cases likely to rise higher.

They limited number of patients, made you wash your hands when you showed up, questionnaires....all the employees were wearing masks etc.

But let's face it, if my dentist was infected I'll now be infected. Period. Just another day of rolling the dice.

A recent Reuters article about the potential importance of memory T-cells for long term immunity, and the possibility that many may already have immunity from prior coronaviruses (from colds, mainly).

I know the feeling, I had to wait a long time for a temporary crown to be replaced with a normal crown. But it needed to be done, and it was at the height of the lockdowns, I'm just glad my dentist saw me on emergency time.

Chances are the dentist gets it from you or other patients. Different people breathing directly on the dentist for an hour at a time for 8 hours a day. It went from a relatively safe occupation to top 5 most likely to get infected overnight.

Many dentists have installed UV lights, HEPA filters, electrostatic sprayers. They are paying through the nose to get N95 masks for them and the hygienists.

Quite a few have enacted extra covid/coronavirus cash fees to cover the costs because most dental insurance doesn't pay if they were to just increase the cost of their basic services.
