Honestly? I don't have enough home weights to properly do upper body lifting away from the gym. I still don't think it's safe for gyms to open, which is why I've started doing my 3-4 runs a week outside, despite the heat.

Our province went into stage 3 and has steadily been decreasing in reported daily cases so that put me at ease.

I doubt we'll be entering stage 3 anytime soon, we've been stuck somewhere in stage 2 since mid-March because people won't follow the rules.

So when are gyms, theaters, museums, indoor dining and malls opening up in NYC? New cases still continue to decline here. It's been over five months since the have been closed and we've already reach phase 4 re-opening! How long are they going to continue to be closed? Until they are forced to shut down due to financial situations??

Do you think it’s possible that cases are declining because of those places being closed?

I take it you don't feel this way anymore?

Probably a smart move after all since people are too dumb to do the right thing...

No not really because many indoor places are opening here in NYC. And not to mention, out on Long Island, EVERYTHING is open. And cases still continue to go down. There seems to be no evidence that keeping these places closed here in NYC will keep cases down. As long as these businesses have mask and social distancing requirements, it should be ok. That seems to be working elsewhere, so why not NYC?

As I just mentioned, maybe or maybe not. But it's only NYC that is not allowing these places to open. Outside NYC, they are getting the full phase 4 reopening and cases haven't increased because of people being required to wear masks and social distance. So it appears that we can have businesses open as long as we are prudent about it.

Didn't you guys argue with me at one point in time about how we shouldn't keep the economy closed forever? You guys realize that these businesses are accumulating debt as they are closed. Eventually they may have to close down permanently if the business cannot bear all that debt without any income. And sadly, that is happening to some restaurants here in NYC.

Georgia student suspended for 5 days for exposing lack of mask enforcement

This quote from the superintendent tells the story...

Quote:
Paulding Superintendent Brian Otott told parents in a letter this week that “some individuals on social media are taking this photo and using it without context to criticize our school reopening efforts,” according to a local news station that obtained a copy of the letter.

“Under the COVID-19 protocols we have adopted, class changes that look like this may happen, especially at a high school with more than 2,000 students,” he continued.

“One area where we have received a good deal of feedback is mask use in our schools. Wearing a mask is a personal choice and there is no practical way to enforce a mandate to wear them. What we will do is continue to strongly encourage all students and staff to wear masks,” he added.

Georgia is among a number of states that does not require people to wear masks in public, despite guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) promoting the use of face coverings to help stem the spread of COVID-19.
So when a girl wears short shorts with her butt cheeks hanging out to school, or a boy wears a shirt that says “**** The Police” they don’t do anything about it because it’s a personal choice? Back to school is going to be even worse than I thought, with some states being worse than others.

I would also say I've seen the protocols for just New Mexico State University. Even with masks, kids aren't supposed to be packed butt to butt in the hallways anymore. So disturbing lack of masks isn't the only violation there.

A man who had coronavirus and attended a church service infected 91 other people in Ohio, according to Gov. Mike DeWine. DeWine, who said it happened in June, released the information this week at a press conference detailing state efforts to keep religious institutions informed on accurate information about COVID-19 and its spread.

Gov. Mike DeWine receives negative results in second coronavirus test
“This slide shows the spread of the virus to at least 91 different people, resulting from just one person with COVID-19 who attended a church service. It spread like wildfire. Wildfire. Very, very scary,” DeWine said.

The governor did not name the church or the community. He says the infected person who went to the service was a 56-year-old man. Fifty-three church members got sick, and 18 of those infected also spread it to someone else.

Those sickened included children as young as 1 year old.

Kudos to kids like hannah who have the courage to speak out with pictorial and video illustrations for documentary proof,

as trying to curb morbidity and mortality among her classmates and teaches rises to a higher level of importance than some rule a superintendent can dig out of a school manual used to validate the suspension, but really represents an effort to hide/reduce the school’s poor decision making with regards to safety.

As an excuse, the superintendent also referenced, out of context, a CDC guideline - https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019...endations.html

America helped pioneer so many innovations in medicine. What ever happened to celebrating and honoring those achievements?

Instead there's a bunch of hillbillies promoting anti-intellectualism.

Daily case 7 day average on 8-7, is at 55,490, down 15% from a week ago and 20% from a peak of 69190 on 7-25.

A strong trend and certainly good news, which for some reason is getting very little press in the mainstream media. They can't ignore it for much longer.

Deaths too look like it may have peaked, but still too early to tell. Normally deaths lag cases by 3 weeks, and it's only been two weeks since cases have peaked. 7 day average is 1047, down 4.8% from last week and 7.3% from a peak of 1129 on 8-4 (3 days ago).

yes, but herd immunity isn't necessarily achievable. If it was we would not have the flue or the common cold and every human endemic disease would be gone a long time ago.

Let's say for disease X a vaccine works on 90% of people the 10% that it work on will be protected by the other 90% (i.e. if Joe can't ca5tch it and give it to Bill, Bill is now protected)

But herd immunity depends on many factors
1) can there be immunity (with some the answer is no because your body does not create antibodies
2) how well does immunity work (can the person still spread it while being protected)
3) how long does immunity last (for some it is permanent for other it can be very short lived.
4) how contagious is the disease
5) what other measures are in place.
