Thanks everyone, I ended up sucking it up and buying via Amazon. They priced 499.95 with free shipping, and it shipped same day, arriving tomorrow.
Wow free shipping and it only took 2 business days to get to my house. Pretty fantastic work. |

HI guys,
I have a Yamaha RX-V863. It is very similar to the 663.I have read this entire thread and have got many good tips and information here. Now my question: Is there an official "863" thread on this forum? I haven't found one yet. Thanks Herb |

I cant find one using search, but I am sure there is one started at AVS. If there is enough people here with one, you may start one and see if it gets some posts.

oh, lord help me. I'm about to lose it.
My yamaha rx-v663 seems to have bit the dust today after a year of great service. I get red dots/lines all over my screen on anything that is being fed through the hdmi inputs on it; i.e. my playstation 3, hd dvr, and dvd recorder. I tried different hdmi cables, all of them do the same thing. Picture is there, it's just a bunch of annoying reddish dots all over the screen as well. Audio works fine though still. The warranty I have offers me a reimbursement of the price I paid for it (379.99), but looking around the net, it doesn't even look available, let alone near that price (cheapest i found was 500). Any help? Anybody hear of this issue before? I've pulled the unit out, made sure all the connections are secure, I've done everything I can think of... no luck. Worked fine since day 1 until today. I'm desperate... and if I need to get a replacement receiver, fine, but anybody know of any deals (even remotely good ones)? And yes, I'm aware there's a new version of this out (the 665), but it's over 500 bucks, and out of my price range at this point. Any help/deal tips would be greatly appreciated! |

yamaha tech support wasn't much help. They basically just confirmed for me that it was a hdmi issue with the yamaha unit, and I would need to send it to new york to get fixed. They contacted the service center, and was told it would be over a month before it could get fixed! Yikes!
Anyway, they left the decision to me as to how to handle it, which is rather disappointing, considering its under warranty. But it all worked out for the best anyway... my story has a somewhat happy ending. After getting off the phone with them, I messed around with the connections more... I took the hdmi out from the yamaha and plugged into one of the other hdmi ins on my samsung tv set. And voila, no problems! It appears that the HDMI 2 input on my samsung is the source of the problems... still sucks, but honestly much easier to deal with. Don't know why I didn't think to do that earlier... |

it's not the cable. it's the hdmi input on the samsung tv itseld. all my hdmi's are monoprice 1.3b cables; they're good stuff. Thanks for the advice though.

I am wanting video/audio from the hdmi output.
Thanks This was the copy/paste it has EDIE/handshake problem from HTPC when using HDMI input Last edited by jstutman; 04-08-2009 at 02:18 AM. |

Multiple posts on the same topic or question is frowned upon in this forum. I am not a thread watchdog or a moderator. I'm just giving some friendly advice. Know this, the 663 never displays a subwoofer icon. It only displays LFE. Forget the myth that LFE is synonymous with your subwoofer. It isn't. ![]() The LFE icon has nothing to do with the subwoofer. That icon means nothing more than LFE being present in the input signal. Make sure the source audio format is 5.1, 6.1, or 7.1 whether it be lossy or lossless audio doesn't matter. Audio formats like LPCM 2.0 or stereo have no LFE. Note: LPCM 2.1 is not very common. But if your input is 2.1, then you should be seeing the LFE icon. Also you may not be aware of this, but the 663 displays the speaker icons on the front panel display only for input sources. This receiver is a basic entry level type. It doesn't display the output speaker channels or post bass management processing. Some receivers will do that, but not the V663. For your information, LFE can be sent to the subwoofer or to the front speakers. If your fronts are set to small, select SWFR for LFE signals output (see p. 85 in the manual). If your fronts are set to large you can select either SWFR or FRONT setting. SWFR means the LFE goes directly to the subwoofer. FRONT means the LFE goes directly to the front speakers totally bypassing the subwoofer. If you have no subwoofer, that is the setting to use or you will never get LFE at all. Other settings on p 85 have to do with the low frequency signals output depending on your bass management settings. See the table on p 85 for more on how that works. Some good advice is to avoid using the BOTH setting. Last edited by Yeha-Noha; 04-23-2009 at 07:01 PM. |
