This thread has long been dead, but interestingly enough though, I brought an RX-A800 a couple of years ago to replace my old out of date RX-V663. I bought my RX-A800 around the same time as you did. It actually cost me $200 less than my V663 did back in 2008. Now to your question, that's right, if you have DTS-HD MA 5.1 or Dolby TrueHD 5.1 you can't get lossless 7.1 from DSP. You can't get lossless decoding from channels that weren't there to begin with. Once you engage DSP, you can't expect the back surround channels to be losslessly decoded since the original lossless tracks didn't include back surrounds or height speaker channels. Furthermore, since DSP is adding or even perhaps taking away sound that was losslessly decoded from the original lossess codec, it isn't by definition lossless sound any more. It has been altered. Lossless means that the sound is bit for bit identical to the original. All the receiver is telling you is that the input or source was lossless Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD MA. That's it. So, you have to decide what 's best for you: the way the movie was intended to be heard or the way you would rather hear it. |

My Yamaha receiver does not recognise AAC audio files in USB. Can any one help me in solving this problem?

I plan on buying an Onkyo TX-NR828 on BF because now I am interested in streaming and hooking up my PC to my home theater system and putting it all on my home network. I'm also tired of YPAO. I want to try Audyssey for room correction for a change. I like the fact that the built-in equalizer which has subwoofer bands for 25 hz, 40 hz, 60 hz etc. can be used with Audyssey turned on. Now that's great in my view. I know all about the horror stories the NR818's and other 2012 Onkyo models had with HDMI cards failing. So far, I have not seen any complaints about the NR828, NR727, and other 2013 models. |

I see these 6yr old posts & just want to say that I've got a Yamaha RX-V1700 that is bad to the bone & it is connected to Klipsch Reference series speakers with a Paradigm Monitor SUB 12 subwoofer. I can't comment on using the hdmi cause I don't use it. I've got my system connected old school. Video to video equipment & sound to sound out through the a/v unit. Larry G.

Another question...I just recently got a pair of Polk Audio TSx550T's and the 2 bottom 8" drivers barley move even when playing bass heavy songs...i have 2 subs but if i turn them off the TSx550's have 0 bass...just wondering if my Yamaha RX-V775 avr just doesn't have enough power to drive these towers.
I even have them bi-amped. My setup is 5 channel. I also have the 2 front towers set to small...center set to small...and the 2 surrounds set to small. Do I need a separate amp to feed my towers more power? If so what would be a good amp to get? Maybe these towers need a break in period...only had them 2 days now. Hi All,
Apologies for posting here but could not start new thread as just joined! My Yamaha 863 randomly cuts off front L/R speakers. No sound comes off from front while other speakers play as normal. Speaker A gets cut and if I press the front panel button, then it comes back but goes again. Current Setup is 5.1 with input from WDTV, PS3, Front L/R - FS, Center & L/R Surround -BS If I reconfigure using YAPO automatic setup then all speakers play normally once setup is complete for 1-2 hours then again the same problem. Any idea why this is happening? ![]() Please help ![]() Sid |

Anyone know rx-v663 power rating for 6&4 ohm? Like the only receive I've seen that they don't say on their site or manual
Also I have a rxv495 - what's the best way to power my fronts? I have 259 watt 4 ohm fronts. Anyway I figured could pre-outs the fronts to the 495 and bridge the channels. .I was told if bridge l&r speaker to one speaker it makes it mono and like doubles amps power, and being 4 ohm the 495 delivers 120watts so if I'm right that would be 240watts. .. but then I still have one more soaker to power. .I guess I could use speaker B but that's same amp, and I heard running A&B cuts power down. .. just trying get more power. .rx v663 does not say what's is power at 4 ohm is. . Speakers only have one terminal. And I also thought maybe biamp-use fronts for one speaker and the surround rear amp for the other speaker. 663 users surround rear amp for biamping Last edited by Bergarth; 11-29-2014 at 03:53 AM. |

Most AVR do not completely double their power. Power is predicated on how much the power supply sucks off the wall. Yamaha doesn't list it, but assume something around 7 amps...or 770 watts. Remove 100 for video processing... Remove 50% for amp inefficiency... You are left with 335 watts. So, if only using two channels, you have rated power. Move to 4 channels, you are down to 83-ish watts...regardless if 8, 6, 4...or even 2 ohm. |

The Yamaha RX-V663 says it will take a 480i input and output it as 480p through the HDMI output. Am I correct? If so, I input a laserdisc player through the DVR S-Video input. It's outputs through the HDMI output as 480i. What am I doing wrong?

Probably a dumb question, but to get surround sound (and use silent cinema through the headphone jack) with the V663 do I need to feed the receiver both HDMI and optical, or is just HDMI good enough?
My PS4 slim only has HDMI. ![]() Thanks! |
