Or would custom backgrounds be things that you build?

Cause for example I played this level that seemed to have tile walls,
as in the background, but also an all-tile floor.
And it didn't look like objects built there, they were huge surfaces and very low and deep.
Even zoomed out they'd come as far as "behind" the camera, in areas you couldn't even build.
That's what's confusing me...

Or would those perhaps come in certain packs or something?
I mean, I wouldn't know which one, because many don't look like "Pirates"- or "Metal Gear"-themed.
And I'm really not going to buy everything... :P

Oh well...

No, I messed with it a little bit. I haven't really been on since. I have nothing planned this weekend. I'm going to mess around on LBP..

You can create a background, but it won't look anything (as good as), the supplied ones. I just mean doing things on your own like adding some trees, and mountains, etc. - with the materials provided.

You may have seen some backgrounds that are not the "norm" - there is a background on the History Pack, but I don't see many people use it. Also, these MM backgrounds are large, alot of times you can use a part of it that is rarely seen.
Also, lighting can really change the looks of MM backgrounds (night/day/color).

There are no custom backgrounds that are on the calibur of MM's supplied backgrounds, but people are getting better at making them. I know the 3D glitch has allowed people to really open up what they can do. I played a level that looked like it had mountains in the backgrounds - obviously, user made.

The "tiled walls" level you played, was most likely the History Pack background.

Anybody on these forums still messing around with this? Where have all the creators gone?

Anyway, I'm making one last level. It will be something that has not been done before. Completely trippy.

As of now, it will be called, "The Dream Catcher". I really can't wait till it's done, but I fear it is still a ways off.

It isn't a glitch, but a really cool effect I've discovered and I'm really beta testing the hell out of to create multiple effects.

(I would post pics, but because the effect deals mainly with motion, they don't really come out very well).

Should be cool.

Yeah, I only create - play once in a while just to see what other creators are doing.

It's still a fun game to play with other people.

I'll let you know the second it's done - I think you'll be surprised by some of the effects.

I just hope the thermometer is able to be kept under control!!!

Question

I'm working on some interesting levels too,
except it always takes me long to create something I'm satisfied with myself to start with.
So it will take a while...

But I have another question:

How do you join an online game?
Cause, I know how I can play online of course and other players can join that game.
But, I have no clue how I can be one of the players joining an existing game...

Just click "Play Online" when you play a community level. If there is an available level to join, you will join it.

@Cym - I jus got borrowed white knight chron from a friend and bought GOW collection today. Then ill be playing gow3 and ff13. I play lbp off and on, usually between games. Ill gladly test a level for you or play together. If you see me on, just shoot me a PM here or a PSN message. Im sure I will be more during the summer, maybe.

I have a baby due in the beginning of april, so Ill see :P

But I've never joined any...

Also, when there are people playing on the regular story-levels, you see these symbols with how many right.
Unless that means something else, the first months I didn't know what the heck those numbers were. :P
But if those are the players, and I start playing it online, I never joined any game for some reason.

They have to have selected "play online" as well.

That's strange that you've never randomly joined up in a game with someone.

I was actually checking on one of my levels and selected "play online" on accident, and joined someone playing my level. Then, while we were playing, someone else joined. It was great to see how people played my level.

I have buddies on here who beta test my levels, but they are "professionals", so, sometimes it's good to see how a stranger does.

My newest level will not be as "gameplay" intensive as my other levels. It will be completely visual, with some humor and some fun objectives. But mostly, I just hope people walk through it saying, "Wow! "

This will still be weeks in the making, but I hope when this level is done, it will be one of the few levels I'm actually happy with - or feel it was similiar to what I set out to create in the first place.

About the only level that actually turned out closest to what I envisioned was my first "Puzzle Wheels" level. Even though the second one is more over the top, I'm most proud of the first one.

But my latest level, could be my own little private masterpiece. Don't know if anyone else will care for it, but I'm REALLY enjoying putting it together and beta testing the visuals. Can't wait for it to start to come together.

Question

Man, I was just trying to make something, I've spent hours on it.
And all of a sudden it just started to twitch and move out of itself again.
Is that some kind of bug or... what happens?...

You know, how it just starts to move and stretch and it just breaks at different points?...
Or am I the only one with this problem?
I work very "perfectionistic", with the grid and all, getting everything lined up right...
But it just seems to... not take any seriousness or whatever. XD
Very annoying though...

Not sure what you're talking about here.

What are you trying to make, how did you build it, and what's it doing wrong?

Not sure what is "stretching and breaking".

It's with different items, mostly including the pistons and sometimes motorized wheels.
At some point when I built quite some things on it, but long not as extensive as most things in LBP,
it just starts to act up.
The pistons start to move while they shouldn't cause they're not active for example,
wheels start to turn slowly, etc.
For example, I built this vehicle, pretty simple, and once I added tires (rubber around the wheels)
it just started to slowly move and break apart.
While I didn't touch it, and this also shouldn't move cause nothing is switched to 'on'.
There seems to be stress created for some reason and it just starts to move on its own.
It's probably me, but still really weird it can happen so easily,
while I put things together with a lot of care and precision.
And extra of it too, because I know how quick these things tend to go wrong.

Makes me a saaad SackPerson.

Well, it's true, LBP has some strange, strange glitches. I have had many issues where something should work - but keeps breaking, etc. However, about 75% of the time, it's user error, or not understanding the "LBP Mechanics".

Sometimes, you simply have to find a different way to make the same thing happen. Remember, LBP is very physics driven - it takes into account weight and speed. If something is heavier than another object, it will crush it, a piston has trouble supporting a heavy material the longer it gets (just like real world physics), if some moves too fast, it will break apart at a certain point, etc.

There is usually an answer for why your objects are messing up, and it's usually quite simple - but once in a while, unfortunately, it's just the game.

Well, if I must be honest it's more the game than me.
Because I take tiny steps in creating these things and every time it freaks out
I have no idea why the last change would break the system.
And the weirdest things is, it happens after I made a change to something
that is barely attached to the thing that "breaks".
And I also don't know why things start moving when they have like "no power" on them.
It seems to be completely random, sure after a change, but the specific change shouldn't affect anything.

For example, there are 2 metal beams and pistons in between.
Metal wheels on the bottom beam with motorized bolts.
It works fine, drives on command, is completely dead when untouched.
Then I add like tires around the metal wheel, suddenly it starts just moving.
There was no technical change, there was no added weight or anything like that.
And this happens ever time I try to kind of patch together a thing like that.
Really makes me wonder how most other huge things were made.
I think I just want to make things too straight or anything like that. :P
Cause you know how the style of LBP is more... "messy" and "loose"... and all.
Which doesn't make sense...

Oh well, guess I'll retry and if it doesn't work, too bad...

Sounds like, when you're placing the "wheel" over it, it may be deleting the wire to your motor bolt. I assume you have a grab switch or something, that, when grabbed, powers on your motor bolt and makes the wheel turn.

You have to be careful about accidentilly deleting your trigger switch (the thin green line). Go put the wheel back on, make sure your green line is still attached and make your your grab switch is labeled correctly (Power on, Speed, etc).

There are a lot of setting in LBP. Some great items can be made very simply, but even they need to be done carefully. If any little setting is off - your creation won't work as intended.

I really enjoy creating, but yes, once in a while, it can be extremely frustrating.

If you want, add me as a friend and I'll see if I can help you figure out the issue.

I know, I'm really careful about not removing or changing anything.
I'm sure the wires are still on there, otherwise the wheels wouldn't move out of themselves either I think.
Unless they just move for some other strange physics-reason.
Cause I don't hear the motor-bolts, not even a little.
There probably is some sort of weird friction when the rubber was added to the metal rims.

Yeah, I have the same.
After some practice it can go alright, but sometimes it just goes haywire.
Or in my case, every extensive creation never gets done.
And at the point it goes wrong it's probably even laughably simple to most builders.
Therefore it's also strange and annoying it goes wrong so quickly.

Sure, what's your name, the same as here?
Mine is 'DamageIncM'. I'm not on right now but maybe later, otherwise probably tomorrow.
You're welcome to have a look at the thing, I also saved versions at the time it still worked OK.
For this specific thing though I wanted to add the rubber "tires" for more grip.
But then..."Mission Failed"... -_-

Yeah, PSN is same as the name on here - CYMBOL.

How many levels have you published?

My latest levels were, Puzzle Wheels II, and The Great Race 2 and The Great Race 3D was published just the other week.

I'm busy doing beta testing for my new level at the moment - but I don't mind taking a few minutes here and there to help fellow creators, if I can.

My old 60 gig PS3 died the other month, so I'm also busy trying to get all my sticker/materials back - missing a lot of the two player items still. I don't care about trophies, just want everything for creating.

So, if you need any of those as well, let me know and we'll knock those out.

I have none, basically because I'm not getting anywhere with the issues. :P
But also cause I only have the game for about 3 months now.
I do have some starts and ideas for levels though, but it will still take a good time to finish them.

I almost have everything, except for some of the parts for more than 2 players.
I'll come through the levels and collect some if you want, don't care if I have them already.
