And they didn't belong in the thread to begin with.
Oh and all the charts are diffrent and have barely changed since LD days, oh and there are lies, dammed lies and statistics so there is that.
They do not factor in light levels, what is being watched how the source was made, if there is any motion in the image that may drop resolution, if there is any difference in the display tech, if there is any difference in the processing used, if someone is sitting dead in or an inch to the right or left and if the display tech makes that matter for resolution.
What the panel uses for back lighting or display tech issues in general, if the upscaling tech is always on ,is sharpening set high or low, is the screen calibrated or not?
How about the person, how are their eyes, are they colour blind, do they wear glasses are they photosensitive to light?

Cost-to-value ratio makes me lean more toward the Samsung than the Panasonic, to be honest

Just read an article that suggests that this player will be North of $NZ1000 when it is released in New Zealand later in the year, so it looks like I will be waiting for the second (or third) generation player with (hopefully) a reduced price.

Should that not have been there at launch?

Default Panasonic :: Dolby Vision & THX & 'quality audio'

i will most likely pass on it; no Dolby Vision?

if it were Dolby Vision & THX, with the 'high quality audio' performance; i would not be able to resist and would 'definitely' purchase

while price is an issue, so is performance

for me :: first player to support (concurrently), Audio Quality - Dolby Vision - THX, is my purchase (and, i am not rich, nor stupid)

How do you see DV outside of cinema except by streaming?

Cinema HDR very good. Bluray HDR needs to be converted by good players to be very good I think from
watching HDR on Samsung player.

so :: you do not 'expect' Dolby Vision 4K HDR Ultra HD Blu-ray players?

are you serious? (you sound like Sony & Panasonic)

'we shall see'

I'm so excited to say.... Panasonic has selected us as a launch partner for USA of their DMP-UB900 4K BD player! If all goes as planned we'll be shipping this July.

Panasonic is also supplying the first mass production DMP-UB900s for our June 21 - 22 2016 TV Shootout event!

Cool beans! Any indication of the price?

With no Dolby Vision support I just can't see this thing as much as one of the high end Oppo's.

Our pre-order promo is $699 delivered. Don't think we'll see any Dolby Vision 4K BD players this year. I would assume once we have titles in DV available we'll see DV capable players.

The payer will stream DV and it's Hi-res audio decoding ready for all formats and features a nice jack pack of audio outputs, like, digital coax, digital optical, analog stereo and 7.1 discrete analog audio outs.

Hopefully DV will be a firmware upgrade on existing 4K BD players.

I believe Dolby Vision chipset support is necessary within the player itself along with media encoded with the DV data. Too bad Panny didn't wait for the Dolby chips, especially at that price point! Yikes! The Samsung, with all its faults, is looking more tempting.

So the Panasonic player will stream dolby vision but won't play the dolby vision discs?

I have read that this player has two HDMI outputs ~ one for audio and one for video. Does this player also function like others where just one HDMI output is required for both audio and video? My set-up has everything plugged into my Pioneer LX88 receiver and then one HDMI cable is fed through the walls into my screen. I'm assuming that it can operate this way as well as splitting sound and video separately.

Thanks.

Makes me wonder if the streaming version is a single layer system with all the relevant metadata embedded so it doesn't necessarily require specific Dolby chippery to output it at the player's end, only the right code in the streaming app. But decoding the dual-layer system for UHD Blu will be a bit more involved with the HDR10 base layer and the DV enhancement layer, so that may well need an updated SoC.
