So...
Just got an email from Amazon, they've put in an expected date. 3rd - 9th May.... Not even April now. Wondering if Super-Fi will be in same boat. This is nuts having the discs come out almost an entire month prior to the player! |

Interesting. It's news to me that 4:2:0 24p isn't part of the HDMI 2.0 spec. But I don't understand the reasoning? 50/60p obviously takes more bandwidth than 24p?

I'm not sure I understand your confusion. One must keep in mind the prevalence of older 300MHz HDMI chips in legacy 4K hardware; while these chips can handle 4K24/25/30 @ 12-bit 4:2:2 without a problem (because it was actually part of the HDMI 1.4 spec!) you need double that bandwidth to entertain 4K50/60 at the same level of bit depth and chroma subsampling, natch. But 4K50/60 was a key part of the HDMI 2.0 spec so they hit upon a way to squeeze it into the 300Mhz bandwidth: bust it down to 8-bit 4:2:0 and it'll work with the older chips provided they have a firmware update. I think the reason why there's no 4:2:0 option for 4K24/25/30 is simply because they don't need it, not even for the legacy hardware. |

That would mean the European release gets short changed. My guess is that they've already been manufactured and are just awaiting firmware. There's always a gap between manufacturing and distribution. Dolby Vision players probably won't show up until later this year or early next in order for fabbed chips to be included in the design of the various units. Also, there aren't enough displays released with the DV technology to take advantage of it. Plus... no DV disc media as of yet. |

This place says it's in stock, whether that is to be believed is another thing.. according to AVForums, units are coming available end of this week/beginning of next week.
