Could this SDR-HDR conversion rely on this HDMI 2.1 meta thingy that was revealed not long back?

Speaking of Dynamic metadata, when will Philips if ever be seen on Ultra HD Blu-ray?

No, it's nothing do with that, it's a proprietary transform created by Panasonic themselves and isn't all that surprising given how they've liked to use things like 3D LUTs in their TVs before. (Basically they've got a post-production facility in Hollywood and have done for years, they're putting that expertise to work in their higher end video products.)

I should have known you'd have it dialed in, I haven't been following this thread completely.

I'll be happy to get a player like this for my 900A. I'm curious though how many nits it can peak at. I need to get a meter.

Enjoyed reading the trustedreviews review.

On the HD-SDR conversion, I was wondering, what is the unit this is measured in? Not seen a screenshot of it not at zero.

The review says it's worth knowing the brightness level of your TV. Wondered, what level that is, possibly nits?

If so, anyone know the brightness of a Sony 79X900B.

Turning off HDR is a definite plus (ironically since its the formats biggest selling point!) but without the ability to chip it for multi-region BD its a no-sale for me. We'll see if chipping is possible but recent Panny top of the range players have been no-go's for some reason.

I was told though as my order was placed only just over a week ago I would'nt receive a player until the end of this month but I'm not holding my breath. I'm not cancelling my order with Superfi but I hopethey get stock in soon preferabley before May but I don't see it happening.

Has anyone who's ordered from Superfi, Peter Tyson, Sevenoaks etc had any updates about their order yet?

Thanks
I got my player from Currys but I think I read somewhere that Peter Tysons were expecting some stock on Monday. Also worth trying Richer Sounds.

My only concern with Currys is no mention of the 2 free films

You should get the 2 free films, that has nothing to do with Currys, it is a promotion by Panasonic

Awesome news, completely missed that Currys had it, they obviously got the lions share of stock

Unusual yes. Isn't here in the UK one of the places though that actually buys a lot of blu-rays comparatively. Always find when I go to the US, in stores at least blu-rays arent as common. And for some reason UK actually has cheap prices

I think Panasonic fears Samsung's weight in the US...Let's face it, the US is mostly Samsung's territory more than it is Panasonic's. And with the new UHD Samsung player out here in the US, Panasonic is being cautious with their release date. Panasonic marketing knows that US customers wont buy the Panasonic unit after just purchasing the Samsung unit

According to the AVF review the adjustable SDR conversion actually adjusts the output from 100 to 1000 nits, and seeing as my TV can kick out a lot more than 100 at peak (my backlight is at 1 out 10 for my calibrated 100 nit settings ) I am very encouraged by this news.

And before some spoilsport tells me it's not real HDR, I KNOW that: but it's gonna be fun tinkering with it!!
