Lol, was thinking that, looks to be around £35-£40. I'd pay that for Hateful Eight not sure for those two films.

They really need to get on with releasing more in the UK!

Anyone using this player with the Sony VW520ES 4K projector?
I'd be interested to see if it exhibits the same issue playing UHD discs with HDR as it does with the Samsung player. Which is over-saturation/overblown Reds.
Please post some pics.

Sharpness (image clarity) is a function of both resolution (frequency) and contrast (amplitude), so increased contrast makes for increased apparent sharpness or image clarity.

See my comment about specular highlights and apparent sharpness here too.

Now my question is if I were to pick up the Panasonic player, is my best bet leaving the settings alone? Also aside from build quality and the HDR-SDR conversion, is there anything else that makes this player better than Samsung's when it comes to UHD? Any word on U.S. release?
How can I found out if my Samsung TV accepts HDR?
I own a Samsung UN40JU6400

I emailed them a couple of times, didn't get a reply but the cancellation showed in my account page after a day or two.

All of the 2015 4k samsung tvs have hdr decoding so technically this tv does. But it is extremely limited with the panel hardware.

While 4k is just a resolution or number of pixels, UHD also includes HDR and wide color in addition to 4k resolution.

HDR is extremely demanding and dependent on the quality of the panel. An entry level panel will have a more limited range of HDR compared to a high end panel.

Let me ask you:
If you were to conduct a group test, with 10 people who don't even know the difference between bluray and 4K, and simply based on their senses and their eyes, they would get exposed first to 10-15 minutes of watching a non-HDR 4K display and then to a second HDR 4K display and then you asked them which display looked better- how many of them do you honestly think would say that the second one looked better without a doubt?

100% of the blind testers ^^ would easily see the advantages of HDR, WCG, PQ and 10-bit.

Most if not all would choose hdr.

Depends on the quality of panel, size of the TV and content.

Personally, on my 55' 4k non HDR, non wide color Vizio M, the difference isn't worth talking about. The visual increase in resolution at this size is almost none to my eyes.

On my 65' 4k HDR Oled, the difference is really obvious based on the feedback from family and friends. Resolution increase is even noticeable at this size.

Content wise, I could show you scenes from various movies that look barely better in UHD. Just because it's in HDR, and wide color doesn't necessarily mean that every single frame/scene will need to use it.

We are talking about your Average Joes here, the types who see a 4K display at the store and go "Wow that looks very clear!"

Exactly, and yet people here and on other boards are freaking out over this whole HDR deal. They have $3000 4K TVs with newly acquird UHD bluray player yet they are panicking because they don't know what the "repercussions" of HDR might be at the moment.
My philosophy is: If I can tell that my 4K display looks better than my regular 1080 bluray display, then I am a happy customer

Exactly. The average Joe will see the richer colors and more vividness of the picture and choose hdr because that's what it brings.

You don't need to spend 3k on an hdr tv this year, the prices have dropped quite a bit.

HDR, WCG, 10-bit panels and PQ is what's important in the new TV System. 4K is the smallest advantage. And everyone can very easily and quickly see the advantages of HDR vs. SDR.

Your questions was 1080p vs. 4K HDR and that would be a very big pq difference that everyone would clearly see and love.

On the topic of blind tests.

At the weekend I messed up and put in Kingsman blu-ray.

Even my non-tech girlfriend said theres no difference. But as soon as the Und was in the colour was apparent.

Whats odd, is I was looking forward to native res movies, but the colour has made a big difference. I reckon HDR would increase that gap (my TV is nonHDR)

A big concern though, is 3D at 4K would have been great. Obviously that wont happen het
