Found that setting, but sharpness setting is grayed out as well as the others in the sharpness menu.

You must have the picture setting on Standard, you need to change it to User 1 or User 2 (I think that's what they're called) in order to change those settings.

Indeed.

Haven't had the time to check using the S&M disc yet. Though I must say, I usually have all settings either off or on standard unless absolutely necessary. I want my sources to output the signal as "untouched" as possible, any necessary processing is done by the TV. In the case of the UB900 however, things are a bit different.

It was the deafult setting Standard. Changed to User 1 and then 'Edge Correction' to +1.

Thank you!

I'm of the same mind sir, but the S&M sharpness pattern has no ringing encoded into it so whatever the Panasonic is doing, it shouldn't be doing it on default settings - but I'm just pleased that there's a workaround and the pattern looks absolutely perfect with Edge Correction to +1.

When I first got mine back in April I did a greyscale calibration on it out of the box and the gamma was absolutely screwed on the 1080p-2160p upconversion, it's no wonder there was a firmware update available before it'd even shipped (which fixed the fubar upconversion). I also noticed that there was a major issue with the 30p chroma upsampling test on S&M, that wasn't fixed straightaway but Panasonic got around to it eventually.

So with that in mind, it'll be interesting to see if they can get an untouched 10-bit signal out of the machine, just for the sake of it. But if it's something that they never thought of including then they might find it very tricky to retroactively apply to their hardware.

Yeah, just saw it. Wonder if that also means MKV over USB? Gonna give it a try later on.

So setting sharpness to +1 and chroma to -3 is for both 1080p Blu-ray as well as UHD (and for USB playback)?

Thought I would give it a try and plugged in an HDD via USB but no luck playing the UHD MKV, mp4 and TS files. Some 1080p content played but at 30p or 50p.

Got my unit yesterday, so far so good. It's working flawlessly with my Vizio P65-C1, deep color set to off & output set to 4:4:4 & I'm getting a beautiful HDR picture with ZERO banding!!

What are the benefits of the Panasonic as opposed to the Philips? I don't care about audio as I'll be bitstreaming.

If you have 4K UHD 10bit from T.V. , deep color to off.

Next year, new 12bit 4:4:4 from T.V. , deep color to on.

Yes, this set is 10 bit, the settings are correct. No banding.

Swapped out the Philips for this guy awhile back and sent the Xbox S to the bedroom. Real happy. I'll prob be using HDR to SDR conversion going forward, my display just does not cal in HDR/WCg mode to my liking.

Just waiting till there is a mod to make this player fully region free before I pick one up.
I know that 4K Blu-ray discs and region free, however I need one that I can play all my Blu-rays on. All my movies are imported from US which is why I need a multi-region modded 4K player.

^ Sony HDR sets have had very little trouble with the UB900's output re: banding so far.

One thing that has bugged me so far - anybody figure out how to turn OFF the display during movie playback?

I combed through all the settings, and switched "front display" to off under one of the HDMI settings, but it's still stays ON.

I have it set to "Dim" in the other menu option, but it doesn't have "OFF"...so confusing.

Set up menu for Player settings -> Sound-> Settings for High Clarity Sound. There you can turn the front panel display off for video and/or audio playback.
