As ive said here before, im not buying 100 blu-rays again, when i watch once, then see again one more time the following year. I want either a PS4 upgrade or a player i can play the few titles ill buy again, new ones i buy, but most important is video store where i can rent or buy digital copies from each studio- this is why an updated PS4 is badly needed.
Nor should it be as absurd, given how UHD Blu is an evolution of the existing BD tech, but in any case this isn't 2006 any more. If all us Europeans have to go on is a player that costs the best part of a thousand smackers then the format is gonna have a real rough time of it, especially in technophobic Engerland (not that we've even had a player announced yet, but still).

Makes me wonder - given the inauspicious launch of the Samsung player in a Santa Monica retail store - whether the real blitz is yet to come. It all seems so low-key that this has gotta be a soft launch, what with all dat UHDA certification stuff only having just been laid down. I think the majority of the manufacturers are waiting for all the ducks to be lined up in a row before pulling the trigger on UHD Blu, especially on this side of the water.

Panasonic UHD player is big system reason a large capacitor.

For as example, Oppo bdp-105D has two large capacitors and hi-fi audio big black capacitor.

Are there any
4K passive 3D projectors out there ( presumably by LG since theyre one of a few ( i think best) in the game of passive 3D. If so, id he saving my pennies for a mid level projector. I'm sure 4K uhd blu-ray will firmware update most or all players for 3D support after the fact- as the PS3 did- makes no sense to alienate a possible segment in the uhd marketplace- particularly when 1) you just need a firmware update and 2) 3D movies will still be made. Who doesnt want to see 4K Avatar 2&3 at home &
3) why turn off a possible segment of 3D fans whom you need for uhd to suceed?

There are no 4K 3D standards. There hasn't even been a 4K 3D film released theatrically. Until a film has been for finished in 3D @ 4K there will be no need for the players to be updated.

I agree that Panasonic's 4K BD player looks great and would be the a/v enthusiasts choice, but as of this moment Panasonic has not announced or agreed to bring them into the USA. So for now it confirmed for some EU and Asian countries.

Hopefully, Panasonic will go ahead and launch the UB900 in the states.

Ack, if only it were the other way around. If I could walk into a store and buy the Samsung right now for $400 (or the £ equivalent thereof) I would, I'd gladly trade you guys getting the super-expensive Panasonic deck in return! Seems like the markets are back-asswards with regards to which players are getting released in which territories.

Not sure why they wouldn't. America must be one of their biggest markets.

Couldn't agree more. I have been very encouraging to Panasonic product and sales management.

Hopefully we'll see this great 4K BD player in the USA.

I wouldn't be surprised if Panasonic is PO'd that Samsung is coming into the U.S. market at such a low entry price. It makes selling a player that is probably 2x in price much more difficult.

I love the look of this player, but unfortunately if it's double the price of the Samsung there's only one way in I'm going to go

That's another bingo. They don't seem to be convinced that the higher end market is worth it in the US, but just look at the adulation that the Oppo brand engenders.

That's the equivalent of £600, I'd happily drop that on a Uniphier-equipped Panny UHD player. But for £700/800, forget it.

IF it was 600 then I'd be tempted to spend the extra over the Samsung. It would go well with the Panasonic DX902B would push total cost up to £3,400 for for both

Those in the know, how does this compare to the samsung. Pros cons?

The following pertains to current generation of BD players and may have changed with UHD BD players.

Panasonic has discrete IR codes for power, as in IR code for On and IR code for Off. For digital video NR there are user settings including Off. Has front panel display.

Samsung only has IR code for power Toggle. No user settings of digital video NR (always on). Has no front panel display.
