Does anyone else have problems playing Blurays with 50i content?
Like TV-series from England. Maybe once in a episode disturbance will go a cross screen from bottom to the top splitting the picture in half and sligthly out of sync. Is there a cure? |

Hey everyone.
Recently upgraded to an OLED 55C7. Currently have a K8500 player I got in 2016 at launch. I was planning on an upgrade to the Oppo 203 in the next year or so but recently I saw a local listing for a barely used Ub900 for $350 (CAD) while the Oppo would probably come out to $850 (CAD). My question is, is the Ub900 worth the upgrade from the K8500 in PQ alone? I wouldn't mind being without DV if it is rather noticable as the Oppo is quite pricey. |

you have a DV capable OLED, hold out until you can get a DV capable player!
...I have a 2013 Panasonic BD player, they stopped making firmware updates in 2014, it's a great player, quality video (for HD) no issues, but, not happy about no more support after only 18 months after model was first made. |

I would get the Panasonic 900 if I was you. It's a great price for a great player.
For Dolby Vision material just stream with your TV or buy a Roku. The lowest price for the 900 in Canada is $600, so @ $350 it's a deal. The Oppo 203 with tax and shipping in Canada, like you said is approximately $850 That $500 difference only you can assess the value; for me there is no second thought. |

It's all about dynamic HDR and the ability to map each scene different depending on light and such. I bet it can make a good upgrade with the right equipment and source material. And we don't have much great material yet :/

If it's a great player why do you need updates or support? If every disc plays fine no updates are needed...

Wanting to pick up this player, especially as the price is very reasonable.
However I only have a Panasonic TX-P50GT60 1080P TV. Can anyone tell what the performance/quality of watching UHD discs downsampled to 1080p using this player is like? Is the image quality any better than a regular Blu-ray disc of the same movie? Sound quality wise I know for some titles will be better as i'll have Dolby True HD 7.1 via a Dolby Atmos track. But mainly wanted to know about picture quality |

Well, I just pulled the trigger on ordering this player through Best Buy! I have it being shipped to the store, and it should be available for pick up on Saturday.
Some backstory... I have a 1080p Plasma TV, and it's going to be a good while before I replace/upgrade it to a 4K set (it's a pretty high end one that I just bought a few years ago as Plasma was being discontinued). I've been buying 4K combo packs whenever the option exists for movies that I buy ever since the format launched, knowing that eventually I would have the right set up and can watch the included regular Blu-Ray in the meantime. But since some 4K releases, like The Dark Knight for example, are getting brand new, better transfers than what was used for the previous Blu-Ray release (meaning that if these new transfers were released on regular Blu-Ray, they would be noticeably better than the previous Blu-Ray releases) I've become interested in trying out a player on my existing TV to watch 4K discs. I know HDR to SDR conversion can be complicated with mixed results, but in looking at the options out there, it sounds like the Panasonic units have the best and most robust options in that regard. Before Christmas, I saw that this was on sale through Best Buy for $450 (down from the usual $600). I purposely wanted to wait until after the start of the new year so that this purchase could count towards maintaining my elite membership for this year (I already spent more than enough to qualify for last year). But right about that time, the price jumped back up to $600. So I decided to hold off for a while until I saw the price drop again. Then tonight my wife and I were watching The Incredible Hulk on Blu-Ray tonight on the existing Sony player that we've had for several years now. A little more than half way through the movie, the player starts making some weird sounds (the sounds like when it's trying to read a disc or when a chapter is skipped, but it was still just playing the part that we were on), then it started to freeze. At first I thought maybe something was wrong with the disc, but it looked pristine. After messing with it a bit, I decided to try another disc that we had watched recently with no problems at all, and that was freezing, too. For a quick immediate solution, I hooked the PS3 back up to this TV so we could use it in the mean time (though from a wear and tear standpoint, I generally don't like using game consoles for watching movies... I prefer dedicating those to gaming). I popped The Incredible Hulk disc in, skipped to the part that we had left off on, and it was working fine, which just further solidified that the other player is just going bad. So after all of that, I went and looked up this Panasonic Player on Best Buy's site, and found that it was back down to $450 again. The timing couldn't have been better. ![]() I have a Best Buy credit card and opted for the 12 month interest free financing option (I'll most likely pay it off well before that, but it's nice not to have to pay it all at once). I could have likely gotten by with purchasing a cheaper regular Blu-Ray player, but I figured what the hell. It's as good a reason as any to upgrade. I figure at the absolute bare minimum, it will do a really good job of playing my regular Blu-Rays on my existing TV. And hopefully the HDR to SDR conversion works well enough for it to be beneficial. ![]() |

I was very surprised how much better my regular Blu-Rays look running through this player! I've used various players on this machine of some form or another (the stand alone Sony player that just stopped working, PS3, PS4, Xbox One, etc.), and this is BY FAR the best picture I've gotten out of it. My wife even noticed the difference right away, and she generally is much less apt to notice such differences than I am. I got the player mainly to have the option to play 4K discs (which, of course, I still plan to do), but I honestly didn't go into this noticing any major difference in my regular Blu-Rays. I am extremely happy with my purchase. |

Something strange happened to my UB900. I have a region B version but i had a region free firmware and changed the blu-ray option to region A(i wanted to buy the Pink Panther box). Awhile ago i update accidentally to firmware 1.80 and the region free firmware wasn't working anymore.
I was tryiing to play one of my many region B blu-rays and it didn't play. It said something about the wrong region so i guess it was still seeing the blu-rays as region A. I was trying to flash it with my older custom firmware but that didn't work. Now yesterday i was trying to play my region B blu-rays again and now they are all playing. I was also testing region 1 and 2 dvds and they were all working too. I have no idea what happened. Now i want to test if region A blu-rays will work but unfortunately i don't have a region A blu-ray. My question is if someone know if there's a software program that i can rip one of my region B blu-rays and then burn it to a region A disc. Thanks in advance! |
