But the price has been announced for the Panasonic uhd player and it's roughly 25-40%cheaper than predicted.

One of those European sites has the launch price at 600 instead of the leaked 1000 and is launching mid april
we know

Oh and a backlit remote is a nice touch.

Yeah, it was announced a couple days ago at the Euro Convention, it's £599 in the UK and the player comes with 2 UHD discs, San Andreas and Mad Max, I believe they said it comes with an HDMI cable too, and the remote is backlit, which isn't too shabby if you ask me.

They also unveiled their full range of 2016 UHDTVs some interesting designs in there like the DX802...

I had one of those on my desk next to my Newton's cradle when I was an 80s businessman

I don't see why they don't offer different options for the stand, they could easily make one which offers shelves for a player or room for a centre speaker.

I just noticed that the 599 price was added into the thread title. Sneaky people you are. I usually just skim that stuff or ignore it when I'm foruming from the cell phone.

I just bought the Samsung k8500. I have a non HDR 4K projector. Apparently the Samsung only passes 8 bit in a non HDR 4K signal. Will the Panasonic allow wide colour gamut with sdr 4K signals?

I would rather buy this player instead of the Samsung player mainly because of the problems I have heard the Samsung player has, also the included titles suit me far better than The Martian.

Do we really know if the Panasonic will include those two films in the U.S.?

As for your other question, ALL Blu-ray players (sans the fat PS3) will pass DTS: X and Dolby Atmos (the latter at up to 24.1.10) audio as long as two requirements are met in the player:

1) Audio Bitstreaming is ON.

2) Secondary Audio is OFF.

Looks just like the remote from the BDT700, i.e. a big bastard. Excellent.

Has there been any indication of when this player might see US sales?

Panny players always had good video processing.
IMO the most important feature in a player.

You want the best possible pic?
Can't go wrong with a panny player.

They did until 2013 or 2014 IIRC, when they dumped the Uniphier for a MediaTek chip and then they started failing simple video tests like fine chroma resolution. Cost cutting I guess, but the BDT500 and BDT700 were great units and still had a Uniphier, too bad the 700 never made it in the US.

BDT500 was the last model the US got with the Uniphier, I owned it, and it was a good one.
