imdb has a history of being reliable but far from infallible,

for starters, e.g. - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...te#post6879042

and there’ve been multiple instances documented in which the imdb tech specs were either temporarily incomplete…. or remain incomplete even to this day, e.g.
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...b#post10245392
Yeah, but it's wrong very rarely and always corrected. The Mazerunner 2 was listed as 4k, and now it says 2k.

IMDB uses guess work until an actual source is released, like a DCP spec sheet or an interview with someone involved, and even then it can be wrong for months on end. Jurassic World was listed as 4K for most of it's theatrical run, and Episode 7 is listed at 4K for no reason whatsoever.

You can mostly trust it, but take it with a grain of salt, especially with new releases.

Ywep, most of last summer's big event movies were initially down as being 4K on there, only to be quietly adjusted when the 2K DCP's started rolling out.

I really do hope that Ep VII will be in 4K but with that darned 3D finish it'll surely be 2K like so many other 3D movies before it.

They will be making a HDR Dolby Vision version. Maybe that will be 4K since it requires a different post production pass.

Good catch, maybe there's hope for it yet, though there have been 2K DV DCPs as well as 4K ones, correct? I mean, DV isn't 4K as a matter of course?

4K for projection, but movies like Ant-Man in Dolby Vision were still limited to 2K for the source. Hopefully they will use the same production pipeline as Tomorrowland.

Poland A different subject

Hi
Sorry for disturbing the actual discussion, but i have a question and i think it fits here nicely (according to this thread title).
Many of You probably knows the history, so i will only quote here a short part.
We all know, that iconic and classic movie franchises like original Star Wars Trilogy and Indiana Jones trilogy were shot on 35 mm film stock. But i have find, that to these movies (and many more from that era of time) also was made and presented in theatres (cinemas) in versions on 70 mm stock. Maybe I don't know something, because everywhere I'm searching for data to this subject, I find somenthing like this "35 mm print, 70 mm blowup". What does it mean this blowup? Does the recently scan from 35 mm prints allow for superior 4 K release, or should they scan the 70 mm prints (if they exists)?
I'm very happy from the most recent Indiana Jones release on 1080 blu. I hope that this will be the first set of titles, to hit the new 4K or ultrahd blu-ray format (discs) from Paramount. They have it on the shelves - so it needs only be put on the discs. But i would jump to 4 K chain (replace my current system instantly - TV, bluray disc player and avr) if they would remastered the sound to Dolby Atmos or counterpart from DTS. I still regret that Jaws (the movie which was recorded and theatrically showed in MONO) was remastered on blu to 7.1 sound and Indiana Jones trilogy not. But Dolby Prologic IIx or IIz makes my day Just imagine the rolling stone ball scene from first minutes from Raiders in Atmos.

It means exactly that: the 35mm image was optically enlarged and printed to 70mm film. This had many advantages for showing the film theatrically, but as far as the actual blow-up goes, you can only lose quality in the process, so the best digital transfer would be from the original 35mm negative.

one being, for instance, back in the day, it could be argued that the BIGGEST of theatrical screens pressed the limits of a 35mm print to hold up to that much projector exhibited magnification

actually it’s a pretty versatile device… i’m told they also make wrapon cold pads for other post-op body parts, e.g. hip, knee, ankle, wrist…..for grown-ups

and also make sterile dressings as an insulation layer for between the skin and the pad to protect patients…and to try to protect themselves from idiots like this….

and some old timer projectionists out there like our forum administrator Deci, might inform that 70mm projection didn’t require anamorphic lenses for 2.40 thusly the field of focus was more even…..i wouldn’t know though as I tried to stay away from the underground world of projection…..

(Is this a troll post?)

A lot of them are wrong.

You can mostly trust it, but take it with a grain of salt, especially with new releases.
It must also be noted that you can user submit changes and that's how they basically get updated. Now I don't know if they check them, but they usually accept them without any question, which I find kinda weird. I submitted a few corrections, mostly for 25fps films that were slowed down to 24fps and listed as correct versions. They didn't even want sources. I think you may be able to submit anything (if not too nonesensical) and they would change it, I don't think they bother? But I'm not sure. It just seems like Wikipedia to me. Another good example is Gone Girl. It was listed as shot in 4K and mastered in 4K until recently. I was like "Well, this is awkward"
I changed it to 6K Source Format. DI also to 6K. And Master to 5K. Now the 6K DI is gone and is put together with the Master @5K which is not correct in my opinion. Since postproduction and VFX were done in 6K not in 5K, so I consider a 6K DI to be correct. Since this film is all digital, the meaning of DI is different in this case. What do you guys think is correct? Please, correct me if Im wrong. I'm basing this on sources like these: http://postperspective.com/gone-girl...chers-path-6k/
