For the record, I guess we should clarify that for those business-types reading.
Instead of being part of the parent company, last year the TV division was spun off as a wholly owned subsidiary( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subsidiary) of Sony Corp. (SNE). When it happened, many investors and shareholders (including me) believed it was the first step to at least a joint venture involving another company(s) for ownership or equity tie-in…or ultimately, the first step taken intended toward an outright sale and exit from the consumer TV business altogether…if they (the subsidiary) didn’t get things turned around to the satisfaction of the parent company. It’s my opinion that Sir Howard (Stringer) would have done the same thing had the Board given him the green light back when he was President and CEO. |

dvdmike, you (and perhaps others) will develop hemorrhoids after reading this...”arguably even more importantly, given that HDR content is currently non-existent to consumers, is that the UE65JS9500 has the processing power to upgrade non-HDR content to fit with the expanded brightness and colour range its panel can deliver.” From -
http://www.trustedreviews.com/samsun...VosDqy2TDuo.99 In other words, if I’m reading that right (given I’m tired and about ready to go to bed) it does dynamic range expansion processing (DREP) of standard dynamic range (SDR) content…meaning all one’s current Blu-ray movies will be *re-imagined* in terms of contrast and brightness according to Samsung processing ![]() Wow ![]() I guess you can always do an HDR’ed YouTube clip as a follow-up to your DNR’ed YouTube clip, but this time while sitting on the loo. |

![]() ![]() Even though I am excited about HDR, I can see it becoming another contrast ratio race between manufactures, and who can pump out the most light. This brings a whole new meaning to the term 'torch mode'. ![]() I just hope studios do not exploit HDR and use it as a marketing gimmick, but rather use it as an artistic tool. |

Isn't anyone concerned that once 4K blu rays are out, the normal blu rays will receive less extras than the 4K blu rays to try and lure more people towards 4k?
Similar to how DVD extras all but mostly have vanished. Just look at Interstellar Blu ray vs Dvd extras and you'll know what i mean. |

Certainly, rights are an issue, but we are lucky to see two Blu-ray discs, one with the film and another dedicated to special features, then again, most special features are just ported over from DVD with regards to older films. |

Received several emails over lunchtime pertaining to this reporter’s article specifically where it says “ Panasonic wouldn't be able to support Dolby Vision pointing to the fact that this technology requires additional hardware which won't feature in this year's models.”
http://www.whathifi.com/news/panason...8Cj2hAMmlKI.99 As has been noted previously this lack of DV support for announced 2015 TVs is not exclusive to the Panny brand. Why? Well, because Dolby Vision is a 2-layer approach and chips available to the TV manufacturers just can’t do that. ![]() However, for those needing a new TV right now and at the same time very interested in HDR…or at least HDR not done in an exploitative fashion ![]() ![]() P.S. As an aside, single layer scheme is included in the Ultra HD Blu-ray spec…which is not a coincidence ![]() Last edited by Penton-Man; 02-25-2015 at 10:54 PM. Reason: direct link for easier reading |

Is there an event in March like CES where DTS will announce DTS: X? Does anyone know how the announcement will be made? Will it just be in the press release section of DTS.com?
Does anyone know a precise date in March for the announcement beginning.. end... middle? |

would be an excellent launch title for Ultra HD Blu-ray to show off the potential of next gen video. Especially since Stephen already has had experience (and some success) with remastering scenes from Exodus in HDR. |
