You also have this very recent news
Dolby & Warner Bros. Announce First 4K Dolby Vision Titles, including 'The Lego Movie' and 'Edge of Tomorrow'

I sure everyone is wondering about why "The Lego Movie"?
Oh okay thanks for the info. It will certainly be interesting to see this year what exactly they plan to launch on the 4K Blu-ray format as a first wave. I am just hoping at least one 3D 4K title is included.

I doubt it. I see 1080p 3D Blu-ray being top of the line for quite a while longer. I absolutely love 3D and own most titles, but do not think the studios will see any benefit/profit to be made with 4K 3D. Market share for 3D as is, is already too low. Not saying I wouldn't like to see it, but don't think it's going to happen.

In regards to your assertion of the B.T.2020 color primaries needing 12 bit/sample rather than 10 bit/sample, care to elaborate a bit more?

So far no word of anything in 3D, let alone HFR. We can only keep our fingers crossed.

It should happen eventually but for the first year or two yeah I suspect all ultra HD discs will be 2D.

Im guessing they will have 3D titles with 4K...its a logical step. It also means they can keep them passive and still have double the resolution of an Active 3D 1080p Bluray.

Im more interested in whats being developed on the home projector side of things...heaps of 4K TVs now, but i havent seen or heard anything in regards to projectors...

Me too, but the wait for a sub £5000 4k projector has been longer than I thought it would be. I'm in no rush, I probably wont be buying until at least 2016 sometime but it would be nice to see a few more models out there.

At least link it to my comment, not to the general subject of full Rec.2020 implementation.

What I said.

I was being critical of the Panasonic BD player not being designed with 8/10/12 bit per color depth in mind.

Yeah, I know Sony have had one for a year now but it was priced at 25k. I think they have a new model now priced at 10k. It only has a 1500 lumen contrast ratio though but it does have the proper 4K resolution unlike all the TVs. Im yet to see Epson and Panasonic join the party...I really wanna see what they can come up with considering they have started making projectors with laser technology...

Ive only had my Panasonic AE8000 for a couple years now so I am in no rush to upgrade yet as well and im extremely happy with it...especially with 4K media a looooong way off...I just wish the companies would start rolling out some projectors so that by the time im ready to upgrade they will have some kickass models available and I hope they all start using laser technology...

I read that a spec for HEVC compression in 3d has yet to be completed. That would explain the lack of 3D in the current specs. I suspect that MVC version of HEVC is finalized then 3d titles may come out

April is the most likely time that they will release version 3 of the HEVC codec which could implement 3D at 4K resolution with all the bells and whistles. The previous two versions were both announced in April and then finalized during the summer.

Summer will probably be too late for the formats launch. That's why I say it's likely Ultra Hd blu-rays will likely be 2D only its first year. 3D can be added to the spec later just as it was for 1080p blu-ray

Yeah, I'm not biting at those sort of prices, my Epson TW3200 has a good few years left in it and I'm honestly amazed at how good standard HD looks on a large screen but I'll bite as soon as a reasonably priced 4k PJ arrives.

No rush, I'm upgrading my amp this year and will probably add a 4k player before a PJ arrives. No interest in a 4k TV whatsoever. (unless current TV dies)

True.

HDR aside for a moment, as I’ll get to that on the ‘4K movies thread’, but with regards to the idea of any sort of ‘UHD alliance’, btw, the notion of which was first publicly floated last month in Paris, if any Blu-ray.com readers had cared to attend - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...s#post10123295 .

Some companies are conspicuously absent as pictured from one of the CES 2015 press conferences…

So… do people think this is because the alliance was hastily formed/organized and all major studio/consumer electronics companies haven’t had the time to thoroughly study the situation so as to determine if membership caters to their individual profit lines (i.e. *what’s in it for me?*)….or, are there already some *wildcatters* out there who prefer to go it alone rather than joining any such consortium at least for the time being.

Well, I was giving you the benefit of the doubt for I thought that there was a chance you might have latched onto a more esoteric concept (B.T.2020 primaries with a 2.4 EOTF gamma doesn’t leave much bit room left at a 10 bit ceiling for HDR and a completely noiseless image)….but with your follow-up response, I think not.

Do you expect CE HEVC HDCP 2.2 chipsets capable of supporting 12-bit to be readily available (at volume) for incorporation into ULTRA HD BLU-RAY™ players in time for their expected launch date?

Ultra HD Blu Ray just seems confusing for average consumers since Blu Ray is already HD. Should've just called it Red Ray or something and have red cases.
