Next Blu-ray Disc Association meeting is in Vancouver later this month but alas, the Stanley Cup Finals (which I would have loved to take in a game) will be over by then.
The thing that amazed me more than anything was some HD-DVD supporters were so blindly following the BS that was put out by Amir and his minions - it was just impossible to reason with them. This saying really applied "Don't confuse me with facts".

Penton man, hi just wondered what your estimate was for the life span of bluray. Heards some reports/ rumoursthat because of lower than expected sales this year bluray could be obsolete in 2013-2014. This sounded stupid to me but i would love your view of this please? I am firmly in the bluray camp by the way, i adore the format!

I'm not Penton, but there's no way it's obsolete in 2013-2014 unless the world ends in 2012 as some have predicted

DVD is 14 years old right now (or so) and still selling well. Blu-ray will be viable for at least another 15 years or so unless a higher density medium comes along, but I doubt there's a rush to create something new at this point.

I don't know if this topic's been addressed already at some point, but does Sony or some other company have plans on designing a 3D camera system from the ground up? Seems like it would alleviate a lot of filmmaker pain and encourage 3D filming if they didn't have to use the gigantic Fusion rigs... I read some interview with the director of Captain America where he was complaining about the existing 3D hardware and software being very difficult to use, which is why he shot it on 35mm.

And if you can, how about doing a short post conference piece with your thoughts on the particulars.
Not fair, I already linked to that above and tried subliminally to get press credentials from you to attend to no avail.

Well, you do quite well for him, when he’s not available to take questions, so thanks for being my wing man.

Steedeel, don’t fret about the viability of Blu-ray. It will be around for a long time. On another and more immediate note, to calm any potential fears by you and others, I will also add that the next BIG launch, which the entertainment industry (including Sony Pictures as well as many of thee other major studios will actively promote)…..will be UltraViolet.

And in that regard, you and other devoted Blu-rayians shouldn’t feel at all threatened by it despite the fact that in the upcoming future there will be quite a bit of advertising about it by some members of the DECE consortium.

However for future note, other than this launch publicity heads-up I’ve just given you, I would prefer not to speak out the specifics of UltraViolet, as I’m not involved in that project. I only bring it up now so as to reassure you that there is nothing to worry about with that either because like I said, quite a bit of advertising is poised for the UV endeavor….of which people are busy as beavers working on as we speak.

People shouldn’t feel restricted now with using 3D cameras….in terms of lightness and compactness. The total weight of the two cameras, lenses and 3ality rig used for The Amazing Spider-Man was only around 40 lbs. or so. That is quite competitive when compared to some typical 35mm film cameras in use when you include their loaded 400 ft. magazines and the mount.

And despite it being a bit larger at the current time (keeping in mind this can serve as the basis for future smaller form factor 3D applications),I don’t think that there is any camera that surpasses the quality of the F65 (taking orders in Sept.) –

Dude, you don’t need press creds to attend and report.
Earlier this week, I attended (like a regular ol’ Joe6pack ) a screening of this –

Although this be from a still camera (and I think consumer level at that), this is one of the first 3D photos from inside the international space station.
Even astronauts do it.

Regarding and as a follow-up to this old post from last Feb. –https://forum.blu-ray.com/blu-ray-mo...ml#post4428542

For those without an AC subscription, it is now available online as a complementary digital edition (or, at least a portion of the June issue is).
Go here - http://www.theasc.com/ac_magazine/digital_edition.php
Click on June 2011 preview.

Then proceed to the article entitled “Tortured Souls”. Specifically for the restoration aspect of Taxi Driver and its journey to Blu-ray, see page 58.

Have a good weekend folks.

P.S.
You’re welcome Steedeel.

Penton, do you know if there are any truth to those rumors about the ASM trailer being with Transformers? I'm interested to see the EPIC in action...and the subject matter peaks my interest, too.

Well, you're not going to pull anything out of me by praising the EPIC.... that's for sure, esp. if you had realized how openly anti-Sony over the years their *fans* on their camera forum have been.

You know, I think the contest judges should award you the Grand Prize - http://www.faceofthefan.com/TheAmazingSpider-Man/
just on the basis of sheer determination.

Sharkshark - This be a nice coffee book for you http://www.mvremembersjaws.com/

As an aside, when I first saw Jaws, it so scared the begeebers out of me that I foolishly went out to my local dive shop and purchased a Farallon shark dart (for protection) despite the fact that the chance of me ever running into a Great White (at least in open water) was less than me winning the lottery.

Hahaha, it was worth a try! The rumor has been stuck in my head for a while.

But still, the EPIC does sound awesome. And I'm by no means Anti-Sony.

I know.

But then if you do your research, it will be readily apparent that the F65 sounds more awesome.
