Heh. And yet in so many other threads people are shouted down for expecting perfection every time. This place is like the Kobayashi Maru, a true 'no-win scenario'.

Besides, I'll take Sony "falling short" over Universal or Paramount's best catalogue efforts any day of the ****ing week.

I'm aware of desperately few catalog titles that are even close to "perfect". And Spider-Man 2 looks pretty darned good. I have a very hard time believing anyone would be bothered by the framing difference just watching the disc.

Same here. But people gots to make a big deal outta something, I guess. We can't be giving Sony the impression that this Mi4K line is a good idea, can we? Otherwise they'll be free to rip us off even more! Man, this tin foil hat is really starting to chafe...

I'd happily pay $25 for a Mi4K edition of Panic Room or Punch-Drunk Love

Especially for someone like myself, who is only a casual viewer of the SPIDERMAN films. I've only seen part 2 once, when it was in theaters. I own the Mi4K disc, and I'm about 100% sure I will not notice framing issues of any kind when I finally get around to watching it.

You won't & the transfer is a very noticeable difference.

This whole thread hasn't really been about the mastered in 4k movies. It's been a ***** session against Sony.

Reminds me of the old days of HD-DVD vs Blu-ray.

If you want to see a framing problem get the 1st release of Hannibal (UK Edition). It was shifted up & to the right a lot more noticeable than this but it did have an AVC encode that is better than the US MPEG-2 release. A very noticeable difference.

You didn't hear that much about it & Universal fixed it on the later pressings without telling anyone. Imagine if Sony had done that to Spider-Man 2 & the framing on that one is nowhere near as bad as Hannibal.

You'd have 10 pages of death threats to Sony in this thread.

If the people in this thread don't want to have a better transfer of Spider-Man 2 because it's framed slightly different than let them have their older & lesser transfer is what it's boiled down to.

I haven't heard anyone that actually bought the film complain about it. I'm ecstatic to have it over the old transfer.

I'm having trouble getting the x.v.Color feature to activate on my panasonic ae4000u. I have super white on in my slim ps3 menu and my onkyo 707 has the enable xv color featured enabled as well although I am doing a video pass through so the the receiver doesn't alter the video signal.
On my projector the xv color feature is greyed out in every color mode I tried.
Just hoping someone has the same setup here and has had success activating the xv color feature on Mi4k blu's.
Thanks for any help!

I don't think it has. Unless there is a HD scan made for broadcasting, the best available version of Panic Room in terms of quality would be the Superbit DVD.

I could be wrong, but doesn't the PS3 only do xv colour for AVCHD discs? It says in the manual that you can turn on Super White (which is what enables it to output xv colour)when watching a Blu-ray or DVD, fair enough, but in specific reference to xv colour it says "Content from an AVCHD-format video file recorded in x.v.Color / x.v.Colour is required to use this setting".

Panasonic also state this on all their products that support x.v.Colour. As it isn't actually supported by the BDA, although it does work. But it is hit and miss, depending on equipment mixture in one's setup.

Geoff, is your equipment capable of x.v.Colour? Give it a try and see if it works.

My TV supports it, but there doesn't seem to be any on-screen indicator which tells me that it's actually receiving xv colour. I've tried playing the Mi4K discs on my PS3, a Sony S790 and a Panasonic BDT320. Even when changing the PS3's Super White setting on the fly there doesn't seem to be any visible change. However, the players correctly display the xv colour test pattern on the Spears and Munsil v2 disc so I guess I must be getting it on the Mi4K discs too??

It says a lot about the extended colour that, if it is actually on, I can't tell the difference!

Some of these finally reached Australia last month, however they are not available to purchase at Australian retailers, at this stage Sony are only giving them away for free to those that purchase one of their UHDtv's, promoting them in this way is a little misleading to consumers IMO.
