The only one I'm getting out of this line is Ghostbusters and that's because I don't have it yet and keep reading that the old version doesn't look all that good. I'm passing on the rest because I like my releases with commentaries, special features, etc... Ghostbusters 4k release is only $10 on amazon.ca anyways, so I can't complain.

If you don't care about Bonus Features, you don't have to watch them. However, if discs don't include Bonus Features at all, no one will be able to watch them.

If people buy these feature-less releases, that'll only encourage the studios to forego Bonus Features. This is a real loss b/c a lot of filmmakers have said that they learned how to make movies by watching Bonus Features on Criterion LaserDiscs as well as DVDs from various distributors. Some of your favorite filmmakers would not be making some of your favorite movies if Bonus Features didn't exist.
I never posted that I didn't care about bonus features so it is weird you quoted me to post that. I already own the original release so I'll be keeping those features. $15 is the correct price for me, for an improved release on a film I enjoy. Thanks for the 'lesson' on bonus features though.

Only on the internet do you see an argument between Dorothy Gale and Pepper Potts.

lol. Ruby slipper to the face.

People just droning on and on about movies or releases they aren't interested in is a huge pet peeve of mine. Especially when a lot of those posts are condescending emoticons and other nonsense.

They should of added extras on a second disc along with new transfers

Sony has never gotten Glory right on either DVD or Blu-ray. The transfer on the 2-disc DVD set is atrocious. I would buy that movie if Sony got around to giving us a Blu-ray with acceptable video/audio/Bonus Features.

The original Glory blu-ray is reasonably nice, actually (can't say I feel the same way about the movie but that's another discussion).

I want to check out a couple of these for myself.
Note that although you mention you have the 2-disc DVD, the Blu-Ray has at least one additional extra: Sony licensed The Criterion Collection's LD commentary by Martin Scorsese, which is the kind of additional content that I would actually not want to lose (unlike the PiP and car restoration featurette on Ghostbusters, which repeat many of the same stories from the commentary and aren't that interesting).

Although your points are valid, I hope that starting now, Sony will begin doing all catalog masters in 4K just to keep racking up content.

The exception to this is of course is Ghostbusters, since it actually got a new fresh remaster after the problematic master used for the first release.
There was a THR piece about this line. Sony's goal is to find films that are popular they can restore from the OCN like Ghostbusters. The most recent article claimed they'd done 100 films and were in the process of doing 75 more. Although this first wave includes a bunch of modern stuff they already had lying around in 4K, future waves should contain more classic stuff.

That audio commentary does sort of make me wish I'd picked up the old Taxi Driver Blu-ray for $5 after U&S. Maybe I'll pick it up during the next sale. For now, I will enjoy the movie on this new re-release.

I somewhat bought into the idea of Superbit. I own a decent amount of them, including the first two Spider-Man films. The first one had an exclusive Tobe Maguire commentary. Still haven't listened to that. Heh

Honestly if I had to choose between a solid Blu-Ray transfer and special features or a slightly marginal better looking version with no extras then I'm going for the former. Better value for money.

Taxi Driver is worth it even at $10 which seems to be a common price. I think I got it for $12.99, but even at $19.99 it would be a worth the price. Great film, great audio/video quality, great supplements.

Some Superbit titles were noticeably better than the original discs, at least, according to the screenshots I saw. Some titles did have fewer compression artifacts and more detail, since the original discs were often single-layer.

The Superbit DVDs I owned were Lawrence of Arabia (which had a drastically improved transfer compared to the special edition, beyond a higher bitrate), Closer, Punch-Drunk Love, and Adaptation (which were only available as Superbit titles)

Bonus features: Better to have, and not need. Than to need, and not have.

And as everyone has repeatedly (though apparently vainly) attempted to point out, these releases have absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with whether you care about 4K. Do you care about remasterings? Then these are the releases for you.

Maaaaaayyyyybe.....

In all seriousness, I got Earth's Final Hours in from Netflix. Being a fan of disaster movies, I ignored the warning not to watch this. WHY didn't I listen to those warning! Even for Syfy channel stuff, this was very bad!
