I bought two of these
Angels & Demons Battle LA Nothing to do with picture quality, but the Battle LA came with a cardboard slipcover. Angels and Demons did not. Do these titles consistently come with the slipcover or is it luck depending on the batch? |

I believe all of these have slipcover for the first run. I got Angels & Demons on release day and it had a slip.

You do realize that these were two of the titles that look virtually identical to the original releases, right?

Besides, if I were to buy one of these MI4K releases, I'd definitely choose the MI4K over the regular version knowing that at least some improvement has been done. Also given that I don't care much about the bonus features for the particular title. |

But I was wondering why one disc came in the mail with a cardboard sleeve and the other didn't. Should it have done? |

I wouldn't label it as "virtuallly identical". As far as A&D is concerned, there is noticeable improvement in the darker shots(caves, lowlight indoors, etc) over the original. Thankfully there are a lot of these scenes, so for the $15 price tag, this is a great compliment to the original...and a no-brainer for an interested first time buyer.

The final scanning resolution was 8K as noted here back in Jan. 2012… https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...aw#post5673213
The files were downsampled to the working software (4k) resolution for finishing. |

Well, it is a business...and the title is low hanging fruit, so to speak.

Hey anyone else pickup mastered in 4k of The Karate Kid?
There was a report of 1 user that said the English subtitles were not there for the Chinese spoken parts. Chapter six is an easy way to check it where they go to challenge the Karate teacher in his dojo. I'd like to buy the 4k version of this title but not if the English subitles are missing. Thanks for taking the time to check! |

Some of these movies already had 4K masters for their digital intermediates. My friend works at EFILM and they do like 90% of the movies released, the others being done by Technicolor or in-house.

It got a 4K master stemming from an 8K scan. While scanning in a higher resolution is better, mastering it in a smaller resolution is not the same as if it were mastered in the resolution it was scanned in. Samsara was scanned and mastered in 8K. THAT is what Sony should be doing.
