It would be pretty amazing if other studios jumped on this. Universal I'm looking at you in particular.

A M4K release of the Back To The Future trilogy would be amazing.
Don't count on Universal doing anything more than the bare minimum.

The bare minimum for BTTF was encoding the DCP for BD, they always go further and ruin things

Yup, I would've even settled for the HDTV transfers encoded onto the discs. At least they didn't have the extra processing that the current Blu-Ray transfers have.

Agreed, Universal has taken some pretty decent older scans and really hurt them. Paramount has done similarly; I recently watched Planes, Trains, and Automobiles and the deleted scene in the extras section looks much superior to the movie itself just because it's not DNR'd.

I hate that Paramount get a pass, they are as bad if not worse

In light of the Ghostbusters release, I'm imagining a bunch of people whining about how soft it is

I wouldn't call the new Ghostbusters transfer soft by any means. It looks fantastic. Imo it's the biggest upgrade in this M4K series.

Universal is the worst studio in the world. You want a studio that respects their films, go to Warner Bros.

Fox has done some really nice transfers.

Well, that just makes Universal look worse now doesn't it? Also, Fox didn't unleash The Cat In The Hat upon us.

Did someone say that Spider-man 2 was theatrical cut ONLY? For sure?

I was gonna buy that one just for the heck of it--but 1 cut only?--no thanks if true!

I haven't seen a mastered in 4K Blu ray but from what I have read and screenshots I have seen the mastered in 4K Blu-rays make a difference with older films like Spiderman. However I don't think they make that much of a difference with movies like the Amazing Spiderman and the new Total Recall, but The Amazing Spiderman and I believe Total Recall already used 4K masters.
