But can Cliff wait that long???
![]() Hopefully Panasonic won't be dumb enough to ship it with the same firmware that we started off on over here, the 4K upscaling was screwed on the 1.01 firmware (it was sharpened to shit and the gamma was fubar) and the unit had big issues with dropouts on bitstreamed Atmos/TrueHD tracks until FW 1.03. If it ships with those issues taken care of then there's no need to thank us: you're welcome, America. |

Excuse of the momentary off topic, but I want to catch Robert while he’s here.
Robert, I have a well heeled neighbor who is interested (pending settlement goes thru) in the 77” LG G6 Signature OLED. Are you set up to have white glove (2 person) delivery of that model to north Orange County in a few months? Has David calibrated any of those yet? |

I live here so you can always find me. Yes, we can take are of the 2 person White Glove delivery and set-up in Orange County CA. LG delayed the 77" G6 till November and we have 4 pre-sold.
David has calibrated many of the 65" G6s so he can take care of that. -Robert |

It is mind-boggling to me that even some OLED TVs still do not have HDR10 compatibility on HDMI input...What is the point of owning a 4K UHD OLED TV when we cant even play a single UHD bluray with our Panasonic or Samsung 4K UHD players??

That's true of many brands of 2015 TVs. BTW, thanks for your PM reply, I'll check that out and get back to you.

![]() As I said, I wouldnt see a point in investing in OLED if I can only use it for streaming in UHD. Many of us already own either the Samsung or the Panasonic UHD players, so it would be borderline crazy not to upgrade to a TV that doesnt allow you to use UHD blurays ![]() |

@FilmFreakosaurus, not from what I've seen. Panasonic's DMP-UB900 has exceptional design, build quality, fit and finish. It looks, feels and performs like what you would expect from a high-end a/v device. At this time no available or future BD player that we know of will support Dolby Vision so I don't see that as a disadvantage.
I also like all of the advanced features that Panasonic built-into their new 4K BD player, like: -- Additional outputs that are only on Panasonic's DMP-UB900 ..... - Digital Coax ..... - Analog audio ..... - 7.1 discrete analog audio -- Premium built-in audio DAC ..... - Decodes all Hi-res audio formats -- Oversized dampening feet -- THX certified -- Full sized heavy duty power cord -- Full sized remote control ... - Fully backlit ... - Numeric keypad ... - Dedicated Netflix launch button along with many other useful discrete apps and functions ... - Tons or addressable discrete codes. My favorite is the very important codes for "On" and "Off" |

I understand and I share your feelings, but for me personally, I'm not waiting. Not sure when we'll see a 12-bit out put 4K BD player.
Once true 12-bit 4K BD players come to the market I'll buy one for whatever Dolby Vision display we can, (LG or ViZzio at this time) get and Hollywood permitting we'll hopefully have optical discs encoded in 12-bit Dolby Vision HDR. But for now all of this is just hopeful and at least a year or more away at best. And most importantly all Dolby Vision HDR will play on all 4K HDR10 capable displays and BD players and even DV discs when and if they come to the market. We all want to see these great new 4K HDR displays in all of their glory and although 1080p BD and 4K HDR streaming looks beautiful it's the 4K HDR Hollywood titles that I am truly looking forward to enjoying. Waiting for something that has not yet been announced shouldn't get in the way of taking advantage of any of the lucky owners of the new 2016 premium TVs full enjoyment. And if there is a delay in Dolby Vision equipment and software... I might snag the Panny when it's been put through its paces. Or the Oppo, if it isn't that much more. |
