Do most use auto or do you like to tinker? Also, is it worth upgrading this player if it's for a 2nd system for a living room?

I watch a good number of both UHD and HD titles, and I would have to constantly access and change picture settings if I wanted to teh TV to do upscaling...That is not practical to be honest. I'd gfive up 0.1% upscaling quality if that means that I can just pop in any disc and just press Play

Also an update on my Magnificent Seven (1960) BD issue (disc played in all players but this one, I'd get a disc doesn't meet specifications message and player would spit it out.) I picked up another copy from different retailer and it plays fine. Player must have picked up on a flaw the others didn't.. Can't get Crank 2 to play, even w flash drive inserted. I wanted to watch The Forced Awakens yesterday on my Philips non-HDR 40'' 4K set. I play most of my Blu rays on the Samsung player (region 2/B) these days leaving my region 1/A Oppo BDP-93 only for playing SACD's and some region A locked BD's I own. I checked how the Oppo 93 played The Force Awakens on 3D and I liked it much more than the Samsung. Why can be that?

There's also something I've been trying to find out, asked many times but never got an answer. I have a non-HDR Philips T.V. set with a 10 bit panel and the Samsung UBD-K8500 player linked to it. What video bit depth is the Samsung player outputs to the T.V. set (Deep Color is set to OFF)? 8 or 10 bits? If I switch Deep Color to Auto, is it true that the Samsung player outputs 12 bit video? Or as this set says ''Auto'' it detects via HDMI handshake the native video bit depth of the T.V. set? Does this allow even if my T.V. is not HDR capable to benefit of Wide Color Gamut?
Thanks in advance. |

Is anyone aware of a method to change what apps show up in 'my apps' section on the main screen (bottom left)? I would really love to have Amazon show up as one of the three quick select options but couldn't figure it out for the life of me.

I do. The only problem Ive run into is with Netflix. It refuses to play the HD programming. The best answer I could find is that it has something to do with their encoding so if your monitor isnt 4k youll get sound and a blank screen.

Yes it is too dark, but it should not be. Unfortunately some titles have dolby atmos only in the UHD disc otherwise I would just be content playing the regular bluray disc

So why are you asking if you already know ? And this too dark thing is most likely because of your setup because this has never been reported by anyone else but you.
