Did you check the bottom of the disc to see if there is dust or hair? It could be that the player and the disc don't agree for whatever reason. It does not mean the player is defective or the disc is defective it just means they don't mesh. Before you return the player buy another 4K UHD disc to see if you experience any freezing. If you do it's definitely a defective disc player. I have not had any freezing issues on my DMP-UB900. Only way to know is buy another 4K UHD disc and see. If you have a DVD/BD lens cleaner around can't hurt to use one in case dust or hair got in on the lens. Though I'd say it sounds like the player could be defective, which I feel for you all manufacturers unfortunately have some lemons, it happens. Bad discs are rare but it's not impossible, all it takes is some disc rot to set in (microscopic holes which you can't see start oxidizing the print, it's rare though).

I'm not sure if this is a Player problem, or a Receiver problem, but twice now, on two different occasions, with two different movies (memory fades as to which ones they were now

You can make the Panasonic player region free for DVD using a one for all remote, or you can buy a pre-programmed little doobrie on ebay which will do the same job: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Panasonic-...705&rmvSB=true

I haven't been able to play any of the mkv HDR files I download from demo-uhd3d.com. Are they supposed to work?
On a side note, looks like most of the manufacturer demos have been removed from that site. Update: got them to play after renaming from .mkv to .ts ![]() Last edited by FullyArray; 06-26-2017 at 12:36 AM. |

I'm a little down on the fact that the DRA and contrast sliders affect black levels. The former much more than the latter. I had an X800 previously but I don't remember its contrast control affecting black levels much if at all. But using it had color issues.
I've since managed to tweak a bunch of settings between the tv and player to stop it from raising blacks but it was a hell of a combination of adjustments to get it to my liking, and it wasn't without some small tradeoffs. I'm loving the sharpness control on the player. Very capable of bringing out more detail on certain discs when used lightly. |

Anyone using this player with the Sony X940D / XD9405?
Someone on AVSforum pointed out the Deep Color setting on the player is causing all kinds of issues with the Sony TV. Those issues he describes are the exact same issues I've been dealing with since I hooked up the UB900. |

I posted the following in this thread but StingingVelvet told me it would propably be more of a fitting question for this thread:
I just stumpled over this thread because my "beloved" Panasonic DMP-BDT500 finally died a few days ago and I need a new player. I watch most movies over a projector and because there aren't a whole lot of 4K models available yet I haven't upgraded the projector or my TV to 4K yet. I decided to get the "Panasonic DMP-UB404" (German version of the UB-400) so that when I upgrade I will at least have a UHD-Player already. From reading this thread I was surprised to find out that I can't just watch regular Blu Rays with a 1080P display but also downcoverted UHD Discs with this player. I was wondering are there any special settings I need to set in the options menu of the Panasonic in order to make that work without "hurting" the picture quality too much? Thanks! |

Quoted from avsforum from the "X940D owner's thread", posted by avsforum member cutman0122:
"Posted this on the DMP-UB900 thread and thought I'd share the info here as well. No idea if this is unique to my equipment, and or if there's some useful insight to be learned from it. Copy and pasted below: Just connected mine up and already watched a couple movies with my Sony 940D. The picture is absolutely gorgeous! Just one very annoying hiccup. It seems the Panny is somehow causing Android on the TV to bog down. I can navigate through the menu on the TV without issue usually, but making adjustments of any kind can take anywhere from around 2 to 10 seconds or even longer before I get any response. If more than one input is commanded before the TV responds, I get an error message (drive settings I think) not responding in which I get the option to wait or select OK. Selecting OK reboots the TV in which the TV immediately resumes being latent/unresponsive. Even more annoying is when loading up another disc while the TV is on. Right after the usual momentary handshaking, the dance usually ends with TV displaying basic info on the top of the screen with resolution, input, and time. It normally lasts for about a second or two, but since Android has become latent and unresponsive, the banner just remains on the screen with no way to exit without recycling power. Apparently, this strange TV behavior to the Panny is continuously present so long as the player is on, and even when I'm on a different TV source input. As a matter of fact, when switching source input on the TV from this latent state, the TV will just blackout and not do anything. When other sources do finally come on, and with the Panny still on, I get the "Google Play" App has stopped working message. Already done a factory reset on the TV with no help. The only thing that works without fail so far is turning off the Panny. The UB900 does not appear to have any issues at all other than causing the TV to go nuts. Anybody seen or heard anything like this? Is there a particular setting I missed on either equipment? HDMI is not using ARC, and Bravia synch settings on TV has been disabled to no avail. Thanks in advance. Update: Deep Color in the player turns out to be the culprit. Not sure if the issue is with the TV or the UB900." I have been experiencing the exact same issues he describes with my XD9405 ever since I hooked up the Panasonic UB900 to it one year ago this June. The only difference is that I am using ARC and Bravia sync/Viera Link settings are activated. I have disabled Deep Color on the Panny as he suggested, still haven't watched a movie yet so only time will tell. But I certainly hope that solves my issues cause these have been very frustrating to say the least. Btw turning off Deep Color does not do anything to the picture except not forcing either 10 or 12 bit, it will now just pass what's on the disc? Am I correct in saying this? |

Sure, but if they're using the 12-bit output (which the Panny will kick out as standard unless told not to) then Deep Colour has zero effect because the player is already overdriving the bit depth.

Will try out disabling Deep Color just the same, see what happens. If that fails I will swap out the cable then (think I already did that last year though). |
