Warner Bros The Searchers (1956) now coming from Warner Archive in Dec

The Searchers Blu-ray 2024

The Searchers 4K Blu-ray 2024

The Searchers Blu-ray 2006

Warner Home Video has done the film proud with what is perhaps the best classic catalog release yet on Blu-ray. Like it's HD DVD counterpart, a truly magnificent transfer and a soundtrack that remains faithful to the original source material are capped off by a fabulous package of supplements. If you are at all a fan of 'The Searchers,' this one is an absolute must-own
Now I have never seen this John Wayne movie but after reading the entire review makes me want to run out and get it.

Kind of funny how that's been happening more often, isn't it?

Hell, it really must be amazing if even that bunch can't bash it, even though it has a BD label on it.

Hope this disc helps put an end to anti High Definition naysayers that keep telling me that High Definition is all very fine for new movies but that for old classics it's worthless cus they can't look much better than on their DVDs...

In a sense, one of my most awaited BD releases, and I have it! My Precious! VistaVision in full 1080 glory!

(Unless you saw a special (very rare) VistaVision screening or a 70mm Blow Up, all you ever seen from the VistaVision negative movies is optical 35mm reduction prints. Or videos. (White Christmas, The Ten Commandments, North By Northwest, Toc Catch A Thief, War And Peace (US version), Funny Face, etc.)

Default The Searchers rocks

OK so I popped this in my Sony last night and was blown away by the images.

John Ford knows how to shoot his movies and this is the best showcase his work could receive; to be remastered in HD.

Some of the wide shots just blow you away. Anyone doubting that old movies can look good on BD should see this. Awesome.

I agree. This certainly makes the case for Vistavision movies on Blu-ray. "North by Northwest", and "Strategic Air Command" are on my wish list.

Count me in!

Even though I'm not a big fan of THE SEARCHERS, I wanted a "demo" disc to show off how nice a classic 50-year old title could look in high definition, and this disc definitely blows one away!

Now, why can't all current releases look this good?

Warner Bros The Searchers (1956)

Just bought this about a week ago and just got to see it, and its amazing for a film of this age. The outdoor scenes blew me away, and the colors really pop. They really did a great job on this film, especially If you consider it to be one of the top 5 westerns of all time.
I've always been a Wayne film fan anyways, but this one performance in this film, just stands head and shoulders above most of his other films. He's just got that I've had it and nothing is going to stand in my way look perfectly, but almost scary at the same time.
True Grit gets all the attention, but this one should as well.
If you've never seen it, and I'm sure most have at this time, then don't hesitate, besides I think its only like $9 at amazon.

I totally agree and it is by far John Wayne's best film. It's amazing what Blu-ray can do for Vista Vision.

Totally agree. Argueably Wayne's best film, and about the cheapest reference quality blu-ray available.

Thanks for the review.
I will have to pick this up. John Wayne has an intensity in this film I have not seen in anything else he has done. Great movie.

"intensity" that was the word I was looking for thanks GVG.
I just figured everyone had seen this already, but I did a search and didn't find a thing.
Only one problem with this, and thats , now I'll think all the older films will come out this good on Blu-ray, and I'm pretty sure that just won't happen

I hated this movie when I saw it for the first time about a decade ago. I don't mind the American Western genre, but I always preferred the Spaghetti Western myself with its badass heroes and violent action. Watching John Ford's vision of the American West, I just didn't understand what this movie was. It was one part epic drama and one part comic farce. I bought the BD due to the rave reviews and thought I'd give it a second chance. Now I know what it's about. It's about Americana and a way of life. It's quite beautiful in that regard.
