^ Kris, (disregarding the manufacturing delay), seems the player dudes are waiting with baited breath for your review on the Reavons, as speculation abounds |

Lots of excellent shots made (and not made). That's why they play the matches. As for HDR fans, we had 9,556,655 visits to this thread, minus 9,418,524 from July 1. Diff. is 138,131 for last 31 days. (About 4456 a day average.) Everything seems tickety-boo ( ![]() Last edited by gkolb; 08-01-2021 at 11:31 PM. |

About filmmaker's intent: "HDR10+ specifies the metadata, not how the tone mapper will use that information, so its behavior will be less predictable than Dolby Vision, where Dolby provides the tone mapper and certification as well." [Ben Waggoner, Principal Video Specialist, Amazon Prime Video]
https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.p...37#post1909437 "HDR10+ does not specify how the metadata gets utilized by the target display." [Penton] https://www.avsforum.com/threads/uni...#post-57086960 Dolby Vision 4.0 is not equivalent to Dolby Vision 2.9 or HDR10+ or a good dynamic tone mapped HDR10. But all these HDR are at a good rendering level for most consumers. At the end of the day, it's content that matters most (Lawrence of Arabia (in DV), Alien (in HDR10+) ...), not content format. And there are TV supporting all these HDR + HLG (broadcasting ...). "No Dolby Vision" will result in an untenable situation for Samsung: potential QD-OLED Panasonic TV with Dolby Vision & HDR10+ against potential QD-OLED Samsung TV with only HDR10+. http://www.businesskorea.co.kr/news/...ml?idxno=50853 First step in the right direction: Samsung "supports" Dolby Vision More interesting tweets from other people on this Twitter thread https://twitter.com/DanielBa78/statu...74333505060869 |

"Dolby will consider qualified applicants with criminal histories in a manner consistent with the requirements of San Francisco Police Code, Article 49, and Administrative Code, Article 12"
I have to get a copy of the San Francisco Police Code. |

It’s intended to help reintegrate into society people who may have made prior illegal mistakes in life by offering a better chance at job re-entry. Basically, it prohibits employment application criminal history inquiries until the first job interview and then, the way I understand it, in making an employment decision based on an applicant’s conviction history, the employer shall conduct an individualized assessment considering directly related convictions as well as the time that has elapsed since the conviction and “Unresolved Arrest, and any evidence of inaccuracy or Evidence of Rehabilitation or Other Mitigating Factors”, which, by the way, I don’t think was considered in this case - |

Today, I connected a Samsung UHD-BD player that I picked up at a thrift store and was pleasantly surprised that it passed HDR10 to my Samsung LED HDTV that happens to have basic HDR10 functionality in the panel. I tested out a few discs and the results were nice, albeit at 1080P. The HDR wasn't eye-popping, but enough to improve the picture quality over a BD, especially with the greater detail from the down-scaled 4K picture.

Robert Z., after you get the Sony Z9J and forthcoming X95J unboxed and calibrated, see if the same size Z9J is noticeably brighter when showing the same content (be it UHD Blu-rays or SDR non-physical media) - https://www.avsforum.com/threads/son...#post-60913116

Will ^ do. Just an educated guess, but I expect the Z9J to be noticeable brighter than the X95J. Many more local dimming zones and backlit LEDs in the Z9J.
Just more educated guesses, but I expect the X95J to go up to 1,650 nits and the same size Z9J to be capable to reach 2,500+ nits peak luminance. |
