RE: State or Country TV power regulations:
The Good: Investment in research to lower power requirements. Example: Nano crystals and blue LEDs which are more efficient, brighter and have a longer life. I believe that TV companies wanting to support HDR had to invest in this. The Bad: Due to power regulations, TV companies can't include features to make their Smart TVs equal to Phones and Tablets. In many cases they can only have smart TVs in extremely large sizes that are exempt from the regulations. This has been true for Samsung till this year when they introduced a 32 inch smart TV for the Bedroom. Vidipath Smart TVs won't need a cable box and are ideal for a Bedroom. Smart TVs for many Companies do not include a browser as that requires more memory and more CPU power. As such they can not support Vidipath. |

You might want to head for Washington or Sacramento and start lobbying for your high nit UHD HDR displays.
![]() Seriously, why would I wish for it to happen? You live in California. You know that stricter power consumption regulations for TVs is highly probable here. I hope that they approach it the same way they did in 2009. Sets sold prior to the reg taking effect were grandfathered and retailers were allowed to sell remaining inventory. So, if a high peak nit display, not meeting the new reg is available, you still might have an opportunity to buy it before inventory is exhausted. |

"Sorry" to be Debbie Downer but . . . I'll skip greater comment on the purported hilarious irony of anyone (except perhaps Roy Cohn) having AIDS and simply say Charlie doesn't have "AIDS." He's simply HIV-positive. A big difference and a bit of education that his announcement will hopefully help further.

Well, OLED will always lag behind in achieving the luminance output of LCDs…even considering the nits spec for the first two years from the start of the Ultra HD Blu-ray format license. And since I envision you and OLED tv being like this…. ![]() By George, I was thinking there’s a conflict of interest there. I don’t subscribe to the notion that this report to something to worry about….at least not/if-at-all, for a long time. I believe a much more serious and imminent threat to the quality of HDR imagery is with some content vendors churning out remastered movie titles in HDR which may be “Technically correct, (but) artistically incorrect.” ( http://www.etcentric.org/smpte-webin...lenges-of-hdr/ ) [something I brought readers' attention to over a year ago] in order to provide eye candy to HDR aficionados or just the public in general who are either clueless or dismissive as to thee original creative intent. Point being, there should be active involvement by the Director or his knowledgeable proxy (the D.P.) with these remasterings. |

You can laugh now, but, if you are a videophile, you will own one by 2020 and it will be within your budget.

honestly, maybe. A lot of people didn't adopt blu-ray because they couldn't see much of a difference. At least some of those people should be able to see the difference between DVD and UltraHD Blu-Ray.
