Trophies?!
Trophies are one of those gaming things that when well implemented can be used to increase the value of the games to which they are applies. It is so nonsensical to me that game developers enforce trophies that are exceedingly painful, difficult or near impossible. There are many trophies, and usually at least one per game, that make it clear that at least one person on the team abhors them, when they should be embracing them as a way to increase the value of their product and to create replay incentives. A platinum trophy on PSN should be something challenging but pleasurable to unlock. Not something that punishes or demeans the trophy hunter, as many of them are. |

I think it likely does for the most part. There were a few moments when I noticed some slowdown, but it wasn't terrible, nor annoying.

Played around with it for a little while today. Didn't really have a lot of fun fumbling around with the controls and camera wonder what to do next. Made it out of the temple and took a break shortly after. I'm not gonna make a crazy hyperbolic statement so soon but I hope it's more like SotC and less like Ico, but I think it's gonna be more like the earlier.
I got the CE... the little plastic housing for the statue was broken but thankfully no actual damage to any of the components. It's a decent looking statue, the art book is underwhelming, but it's not full sized so I should have expected that. The steelbook is alright. Ultimately I am just glad it's finally out. Wish it had less issues though... they had so much time to iron everything out. |

This game sure is pushing my patience to the limits. When it works, it's so satisfying and feels very fluid but man when it doesn't, it's brutal. The camera and controls are like SOTC so I was expecting it, but the camera really blocks your view at times especially when it's something nice. Hints are not existent or if they are they are badly timed. Sometimes you do something right but have to wait for Trico to follow and so you are consistently second guessing yourself wondering if you are right or it's something else.
Having said all that, the audio, soundtrack, feel of companionship and visuals are top notch. I wasn't expecting the game to look this nice. So far the frame rate is solid on the pro but I could see how people would see slowdowns on PS4. I feel like I'm going to constantly take breaks though as to not throw my controller out the window. This will definitely attract the same crowd as the Ico and SOTC but the camera and controls are going to have people not even bother to finish / play the game unfortunately. Game sounds good so far. I do agree that sometimes these games leave you guessing what is going on or what has to happen next. In Shadow of the Colossus, I had no clue how to defeat that giant Turtle type boss at first. It literally took me a couple hours to figure it out and it wasn't fun because the camera kept fighting what I needed to do with the horse. Once I got it though, the rest was just a matter of practice and the rest of the game was classic.
So this one is more like Ico? I didn't think I'd care for Ico but that turned out to be a fun castle exploration game IMO, even though I prefer open world. You still could go wherever you wanted pretty much in the castle, so that was cool. Looking forward to playing this soon. |

I'm about 4.5 hours in now. I only had 1 instance where Trico didn't listen to me, so I'm not experiencing the complaints I've read from others. The times when you have to grab on to him so that he leaps up to other areas could be faster. I also only experienced 1 major slow down in frame rate, but the camera has mostly been fine for me. Some annoyances for me were thinking Trico was ready to catch me when I leapt across a large distance (he wasn't!), and this one moment where you have to
[Show spoiler] your timing has to be spot on.

I'm loving this game too so far. Huge fan of the earlier two games, have played them multiple times. So was anxiously awaiting this one. I am not disappointed, and will spend hours playing it. Might not even get that "beat the game in under 30 hours" trophy. I'll do a trophy run after my first play-through I bet.
The game looks gorgeous in HDR on my launch-edition PS4. The only gripe I have is the camera controls. They're terrible and take some getting used to. Hopefully it can be fixed. No other issues though. I can't wait to get back to playing it. It's a refresh from the shooter games I've been playing lately like Uncharted 4, Tomb Raider, and Watch Dogs 2. |
