I'm a bit surprised this did not receive a Criterion release. I never expected it to see an official Sony release like Lawrence of Arabia or [From Here to Eternity[/I] due to it being less mainstream than those releases, but since Criterion obtained On the Waterfront last year, I figured that would be the route. I'm actually excited about the prospect of TCM releasing exclusive blu-rays. I just hope the price matches the quality! |

The Understanding I have with Ishtar is that it was pressed back when Sony was still gung ho about releasing catalog titles, but for whatever reason after it was pressed they sat on it for a while (legal reasons???), then last year they decided to release what had been sitting around for a few years in storage.

It's okay for you, but they charge way too much for international shipping, even to Canada. I'll have to keep my eye out on the trade forums or E-Bay for this one I guess.

edit: does the code (TCMGIFT14) mentioned earlier give any sort of discounts for Canadian shipping? Last edited by MifuneFan; 01-09-2014 at 05:10 PM. |

May have to get it shipped to a friend in the states and then get them to post it to me! |

As to same price as TT, TCM offers more bonus features and few better quality films for their prices. |

I emailed TIFF Bell Lightbox if their screening next month will be the new 4K restoration, and all they said was that it'll be a "digital presentation". |

Thing is, I've never really argued with the price of disc...I've got a dozen Twilight Time discs and couple of those were $35.95 each. But that shipping infuriates me. Here's a shipping truth. I regularly ordered from a certain American vendor who's shipping was a bit pricey but not outrageous. In the late summer of 2012, due to an unusual circumstance, this vendor sent me two Blu-ray Discs from outside of their normal shipping channel. These discs were sent in a 9x11" padded envelope from California to Winnipeg. I have that envelope sitting right in front of me. It has $3.90 postage on it. Two Blu-rays from sunny California to Winnipeg for $3.90. Ok, that was 16 months ago. Rates have gone up. I don't mind paying some handling charges. Go ahead, take advantage of me and charge me $8.95 shipping for one disc...I'm gullible enough to pay it. But I'm not paying $21.95. Frankly, I'm used to bending over and taking it...I had colon cancer 10 years ago and I have prostate cancer now. I'll bend over for my urologist and I'll bend over for my general surgeon. I'm NOT bending over for Robert Osborne! |
