With such a short window of time between the announcement and the release, I wonder if TCM will send out screeners for review. I also find it disappointing that the extras with Bogdanovich are not showing listed. Fingers crossed they can obtain the rights to them.

Default The Lady From Shanghai - Jan. 27, 2014

"In partnership with The Film Foundation, Turner Classic Movies and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment proudly present this DVD/Blu-ray combo pack of The Lady from Shanghai (1947)—the first-ever Blu-ray release of the film, featuring a brand-new 4k digital restoration from the original negative."

It's only a couple of week away! Here's the pre-order page at the TCM site (TCM has an exclusive on its distribution): link. List price is $29.99 but currently for sale at $24.99.

Here's the complete list of extras, per the TCM site:

Introduction by Robert Osborne
Scene Stills
Movie Posters
Biography
Publicity Stills
Behind-the-Scenes Photos
Lobby Card Set
TCMDb Articles
Eddie Muller Commentary

Note: those who want to keep the Bogdanovich commentary will want to hang onto their old Columbia DVDs.

Does TCM charge your CC right away when pre-ordered?

And the only special feature would be an isolated score track.

Ordered. Really looking forward to this one. Wish they had kept the stylish cover art shown in the OP, though. Those old noir posters are the bomb.

The poster art may be in the lobby cards and extras, though.

Here's a shipping truth. I regularly ordered from a certain American vendor who's shipping was a bit pricey but not outrageous. In the late summer of 2012, due to an unusual circumstance, this vendor sent me two Blu-ray Discs from outside of their normal shipping channel. These discs were sent in a 9x11" padded envelope from California to Winnipeg. I have that envelope sitting right in front of me. It has $3.90 postage on it.

Two Blu-rays from sunny California to Winnipeg for $3.90. Ok, that was 16 months ago. Rates have gone up. I don't mind paying some handling charges. Go ahead, take advantage of me and charge me $8.95 shipping for one disc...I'm gullible enough to pay it.

But I'm not paying $21.95.

Frankly, I'm used to bending over and taking it...I had colon cancer 10 years ago and I have prostate cancer now. I'll bend over for my urologist and I'll bend over for my general surgeon. I'm NOT bending over for Robert Osborne!
I ship blus from Canada to the US all the time, one blu in a padded envelope is $2.20. It's a few more bucks for a tracked packet but nowhere close to what TCM is charging. My last shipment of four titles from Twilight Time only cost about $10. Some people/companies just like to rip you off with high shipping costs.

Also that free shipping code does NOT work for Canadians either.

Wish I hadn't built up such a dread towards ever ordering anything from TCM again... Seems like a worst case scenario whenever I've ordered box sets from them (crunch/smoosh/dent KY style). Hope this one's not cardboard or that it does become available some other way.

Depends which company its shipping through too though. Some courier companies like to charge an extra fee for having to cross through the border and thats where we get nailed for shipping.
I've seen Amazon orders jump from $35 to $75 just by clicking on my Canadian shipping address instead of the American one.
Either way, I'm looking really forward to this release! Glad to see the Robert Osborne intro included too

Just put in my preorder for this. $25.71 with promo code and Colorado sales tax. Not a bad price for such a classic film. Fingers crossed for no shipping nightmares.

I placed my order yesterday and I would urge others to purchase this great release. $24.99 is a great price for this classic.

It was cool that Sony partnered with TCM on this. I hope there aren't any glitches like there was with the latest Sony film noir set where all the movies were full of judder (stutter motions of people, camera, etc)

TCM's 8.95 shipping charge, is that first class mail? If you use the free shipping code, what shipping method do they use?

So does TCM charge you CC right away when you preorder?

You must not know about the TT releases of Blue Lagoon, Christine,
Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines, etc etc.

Even this disc drops a commentary from the previous DVD release.
