Do TCM exclusives usually become available on Amazon later? I'd rather not shell out $25.xx when I could wait for it to eventually hit $9.99 on Amazon.

"Dirty hands"? Seriously? Not got much else going on in your life, then?

Personally, I wish TT had released this. Shipping to the UK is nearly $30 - a total of nearly $55 for the disc, which would then be hit with customs duties of another $25 or so - about $80 in all, more than twice the price of a TT disc.

Yeah, way to go, Sony.

Sometimes, but even if they do they still rarely go very low in price. I doubt we'll ever see The Lady from Shanghai for anywhere near $10.

Oops, you're correct. Several third-party sellers have had it for less according to another site. For whatever reason this site didn't have the Amazon ASIN attached to the profile.

Don't be surprised if it's released in Europe, region free. With shipping it could be less than $25.

btw: for people happy that this release is a TCM exclusive instead of going to TT, be aware that this bd falls under TCM's Vault Collection which according to the website are "produced in only small quantities and available for a limited time"; so this bd will indeed be limited, and may not even be available a year from now.

At least you can preorder it. And I am certain that at the end of the release day there will still be copies.

The blu-ray scalpers would have been all over this release if TT released it. I would rather pay more money to TCM (who will use the profit to release quality blu-rays) than 100 dollars to a nobody blu-ray scalper.

My guess is that line is a marketing gimmick. I've bought a bunch of Vault Collection titles over the years, and I've never seen a Vault Collection title go OOP.

Yeah, but only from third party sellers, and at least for the Film Noir III and IV collections, the lowest prices are almost double what TCM charges. There's no way this title hits Amazon for $10.

try and find film noir vol 3 right now.
(I never got it and it's not looking good)

This may have been answered already, if so, apologies, but do we know the region coding of this?

It is odd that it's not listed anywhere. Of course, some idiot has it listed for over $3700 on Amazon.

Also, I just noticed something on the TCM order page that's a bit disturbing. All of the special features are listed as only appearing on the DVD, not the blu-ray. I hope it's just a typo, but TCM has been known to make some boneheaded decisions like this in the past, so it might be true.

Historically, are these TCM films worth their asking price?

Ordered Lady From Shanghai & Iron Petticoat. FWIW, I've never seen Petticoat below $24.99, even through last holiday season, so don't expect Shanghai either. It's a TCM exclusive, so why should they discount it? Happy to pay $25 as I owned Shanghai on Laserdisc & DVD. They had me at Grover Crisp! 4K scan!

This will go nicely with Kino's The Stranger from Amazon last week

Should have upgraded the shipping to 3-7 business days since the coupon works for that too.

If you're concerned about the transfer I wouldn't worry too much about that. Sony's average efforts are usually pretty damn good and this one got the full-tilt Taxi Driver package.

The extras look a bit on the slim side but the transfer should be spectacular.

D'oh! Didn't see that. Oh well. TCMs mobile site is so wonky, I'm lucky it processed at all. Had to create a new account because it refused to accept my password reset link.

Some folks make it seem like this will be a pretty limited release.

Amazon can definitely do that, and I'm sure they pay pennies on the dollar, but I can't believe TCM moves a lot of inventory when compared to the majors or even SAE. I would even call SAE's shipping costs high and it doesn't help that the USPS recently increased it's prices.

I don't know what shipping method TCM uses for international orders but they could be using an insured and trackable method in which case the costs seem to skyrocket for that service. In the case of Amazon they can afford to write off loses but a smaller retailer such as TCM probably can't afford to do that.

The reason why I was looking at the prices to begin with was because I saw a post from another member asking if anyone would be willing to order and then reship it to Canada. However, based on those rates I previously qouted the savings would be negligible unless you use a method which provides no insurance or tracking what so ever so if it gets lost someone would have to eat that cost.
Dude, I don't know what to say. I've been cross border shopping for DVDs and blu rays for ten years now. I buy Twilight Time titles from SAE, I buy items from importsCDs, blowitouttahere, individual ebay sellers, I buy from sellers in the UK, I buy from JB Hi Fi in Australia and none of them come even close to that amount for shipping, especially for a single title.

I'm with you there. Twilight Time would be limited to 3000 units but they're both dealer exclusive titles which once again makes it more difficult for fans to get it. I'm willing to give you my money Sony, and you too TCM. Just give me a cheaper shipping option. In the unlikely event it gets lost in the mail (which has never happened in ten years, knock on wood) I'll deal with it, I'm a big boy.
