Take a look at second to the last page. 99.9% of all of these are 4K. Should take a while to update your list.

Thanks for that. Some solid info at last, and that's an interesting point about the proprietary 4K upscaling. With a movie like Ghostbusters, shot anamorphic on fast, grainy stock, I wonder just how much more detail could be eked out of the negative. A real-world shootout between the actual 4K and the proprietary upscaled 4K would make for an entertaining afternoon. Now all we need's a deck of cards...

I’ve been meaning to tell you that your avatar is missing a substantial portion of the ramus of the mandible on both sides (not to mention the fact the mandible is the most solid bone in the face) and that image is rather unnerving to someone like me with a delicate sensitivity.

It bugs me…because then I wonder how such a thing happened…which compels me to run all sorts of bad scenarios through my mind as to the cause.

P.S. ^ Reminds me, one moment.

Even though The Hobbit was shot in 5k? Doesn't make sense.

I'm not lying, it was finished at 2K. I'm guessing that Warners didn't want to pony up the cash to do such an effects-heavy movie (or rather three of them!) in 4K, and they wouldn't be the first to baulk. Other flicks like Pirates 4 and Prometheus were also finished at 2K, despite having been lensed at 4K/5K.

That's being the case, it's plenty ironic that Sony have it the other way around with Skyfall, i.e. they upscaled the Alexa-originated 2.8K image to 4K.

That's why this push for 4K in the home seems a bit premature to me; outside of Sony, 2K is pretty much standard for a DI at this point in time and it doesn't look like changing any time soon. YES, many 2K films could be redone at 4K but visual effects shots are the stumbling block; do you do them from scratch (which, depending on the film, could be 1 shot, or 100 shots, 1000 shots etc, thus costing mucho moneyz) or do you up-rez them from the 2K original (like Sony did with Spider-Man 3)?

Few movies shot on the 4K Red/5K Red Epic have actually been finished in >2K resolution.
