A new negative and the one used on Jaws in 1975 would have pretty different capabilities. Combined with the less-than-stellar optics of the lenses they used, 4K probably scraped off 99.9% of whatever was on that film.
Even for a new negative, 6K is very generous. The scanner might still resolve something, but the actual recorded image detail tops out well before you've resolved the last dustings of grain in the emulsion, and that point is well before 6K. Is that stuff worth calling "resolution"? Maybe, maybe not, but a 6k digital image would murder a 6k scan of regular color film detail/clarity-wise... |

If The Dark Knight Rises is listed, then The Dark Knight should also be listed. The IMAX scenes were scanned at 6K and 8K and the 35mm scenes were scanned at 4K. What happened after that and is another story. http://www.theasc.com/ac_magazine/Ju...ight/page5.php Also, the term "transfer" should be changed to "master" because none of these films feature a 2K or a 4K or a 6K transfer. They were mastered at those resolutions and then downsampled to 1080p for Blu-ray. Quote:

Found it. Looks like 1 and 3 are 2K, while 2 is 4K.
Spider-Man 3 didn't even have a 4K DI. Weird. |

Yes they were.
https://www.google.com.sg/url?sa=t&s...51156542,d.bmk http://pro.sony.com/bbsccms/ext/SXRD/cinema.shtml\ There is also a press release link at the bottom of the page that reads "SONY SXRD PROJECTORS SNARE AUDIENCES WORLDWIDE AT PREMIERE SCREENING OF "SPIDER-MAN 3" IN FULL 4K RESOLUTION" Unfortunately, the report is no longer available. But I can guarantee you, 4K cinema was already availabe back then. Albeit, at a premium price. I can't quite remember, but I think I did have to pay slightly more for 4K. It's been six years after all. Last edited by BozQ; 08-23-2013 at 01:30 PM. |

Man it's not a blurb. Amazon Japan Descriptions are facsimilies of what is written on the back covers. And for further proof check the descriptions of other confirmed 4K Fox Transfers, they all say 4K. While those not from 4K Scans like 12 Angry Men say clearly 'from new high definition master'. But if you still need cover pics I will try to get them.

I'd say that anything so specific as mentioning a 4K transfer for the film is solid enough evidence. Its not like Amazon is making that up on their on. I think the greatness of those transfers also support the case of them being 4K scans
