TT just stated on FB that Fat City (1972) is a brand new 4K transfer coming from Sony. Release date is Sept. 8th 2015.

No, just upscale them like pretty much every 4K finished movie has done up until this point...

It's funny, I remember reading an article where computer artists from different production companies had a bake-off. They basically rendered the same objects in varying resolutions. Some swore that 2K was absolutely necessary, while others said that 720p was enough.

When projected on the big screen, no one could tell which was 720p and which was 2K.

You're talking about 2K vs 1.2K (the horizontal resolution of 720p) so it's not that surprising. IIRC Doug Drexler said that the VFX on BSG had to be done at 720p because it just looked too sharp at 1080p.

No, VFX being 1080p wasn't the issue. They had to soften it to match the photography of the show itself.

While people are still struggling to render 2K, ILM rendered out to 4K for Tomorrowland.

And I seriously doubt that 720p test.

Okay, leave the numbers aside, the point remains that they had to soften it up to fit the aesthetic of the show, ergo not all CG needs to be done at a fixed resolution to begin with, it's all about the context of the scene with regards to temporal resolution demands, relative brightess/contrast/sharpness of the shot and so on. Which nicely leads me to Tomorrowland, as Penton Man was kind enough to detail the thinking behind the VFX here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...postcount=5355

[edit] FYI here's a piece from Trekcore which has the Drexler quote I was thinking of about BSG's CG being too sharp at 1080: http://trekcore.com/blog/2012/10/ent...-news-emerges/. I wasn't making it up.

I see bad signs for: Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation. Status is 'completed' and the DI info has changed to 2K. It also looks like Mission Impossible will be 3D released. 3D is really standing in 4K it's way.

Terminator Genisys DCP file, doesn't include a 4K trailer as well for MI. Most of the time 4K movies will have a 4K trailer as well, like the past shown us.

The final DCP will show up soon, but this doesn't look good...

I have always believed that The Spy Who Loved Me is from a 4K scan/4K workflow.

It's with the Craig films as being the best looking Bond films on Blu-ray IMO.

The big question is, which Blu-rays use a 4K scan/4K transfer. Is it possible that the existing Blu-ray of Men in Black 2 use such a 4K transfer?

Very nice, that Sony have a new transfer for Btam Stokers Dracula, I hope they use this for the upcominf editzion in october.

It would be great, when Sony make no more 4K re-releases like the mastered in 4K series with no bonus features. In my opionen re-releases like the Anniversary Editions of Ghostbusters and Ghostbuster 2 are way better. They have a new 4K transfer and all existing bonus features.

While I am thinking about it you might to link the DE or PL disc instead of the U.S. one for Fury since Sony acknowledged that the U.S. disc is wrong with its black crush.
